I used Arch for a long time. Then one day I needed more apace on a partition and moved said partition to the left (never ever do that!)
Me living on the edge, as I do, didn't backup anything. After failed attempts to fix the MBR, I gave up and decided to reinstall Arch. Didn't feel like having to start from scratch tho and I had heard about manjaro on the Linux action show. So I figured I'd give it a shot. So far it's running really smooth. I still use the terminal for most things, but it was nice to just run the installer and have minimal post-install stuff to do.

One criticism I could give, however, is you need the base-devel package to run makepkg. It of course wasn't a big deal to install (after getting a message about fakeroot not working) but it's really something that should be pre-installed.

I really do not remember...

I was using ubuntu since 2008 as my main OS (before my main OS was XP and had dual boot with PCLOS and before that mandrake)

At 2011 I decided that I really do not like ubuntu any more and searched for alternatives. Initially I tried fedora and from 2012 I am using LMDE (mint debian)

LMDE taught me one lesson: "rolling is good" but still I found it too conservative for my taste (and some needs). So I searched for alternatives and I remember that I searched for Arch-like systems. But do not remember where. I suggested it to a friend of mine  ;D who wanted to try linux but he had problem with temperature on his laptop and went to mint instead. That was some months ago. I tried it myself very recently on my desktop and I am very pleased. So far the only thing that works right on LMDE and has issues on manjaro is google-earth. (pictures are not displayed and there is some instability)

the main places I usually search are google, wikipedia and youtube. (wikipedia strangely is not mensioned in the poll.

I think it was on Distrowatch.

I'd been using buntu's for a few years and didn't like the way they were going, or the bugs so had started looking at Arch, didn't like/understand much of the requirement for editing config files to do basic things that I'd taken for granted on the buntu's, then saw Manjaro.  Tried it and haven't looked back since, it's just fantastic  :D

Until now, I've never heard of Manjaro. I've read about it many times, though, and the first of which was on Distrowatch, just like many others, I believe.

.....linguistic hair splitting aside  ;), it's interesting that almost half of poled users heard about Manjaro via DistroWatch. People can debate what DW rankings mean but one thing a higher ranking seems to equate to quite consistently, is a gain in new users.

Thanks to everyone who has voted so far - it's useful feedback.

mips told me about Manjaro in an email, back when I was bitching about my fears for what systemd may do to the Linux & BSD worlds.

Sometime later I had a little look see...

I also found out about Manjaro via an early review by Spatry. Is he really a member of this community? Interesting!

I found Manjaro last year on this Arch Wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Based_Distributions_(Active)
I was looking for a good Arch based distribution that would take less time to maintain, because I had less and less time to use my computer. The mhwd tools convinced me to stay here.

He posted here & made mention of his pronunciation.

Hi guys,
my first contact with Manjaro is due to Spatry's blog and Youtube channel (and I see I'm not alone).
Apart from that I dug a bit on Distrowatch and other Linux related blogs.

And finally I burned a DVD and tried.

I added "Microsoft/Apple board meeting" as an option today, as Manjaro is flying high & no doubt has those two companies worried.
