[How-To] sharing profiles for ManjaroISO
« on: 20. May 2013, 01:55:19 »
If you made a great profile for ManjaroISO and you want to share it with us, it would be best if you tar it up.
Best would be to create a tarball which preserve the symbolic links. To achieve that, call followed cmd:

Code: [Select]
tar -cpvzf profile.tar.gz profile
Replace profile with your profile folder-name.
I will upload my experimental profiles with my images so you guys can rebuild them if needed.

This way the community might give us some great profiles we may adopt to ManjaroISO.

Wouldn't it be easier to just upload the key files; packages and packages-kde for example? The rest would be generic configs  surely if released as a 'Manjaro spin'...

Also, thank you very much for being so kind as to share your own tools in this manner. Many devs wouldn't dream of being so gratious.

Sure. I'm just looking for the best way to pack them up and even store our sources ...

Ok. What about specific builds, i.e;
x86_64, Intel, no virtualbox modules, no uefi support?

I have in mind an absolute bare-bones spin:
1. As above
2. 0 App's
3. No wallpapers

I've to make efi-support on x86_64 optional to archive that. You can remove the pkgs-image which includes the local driver repository as we have done it in our Openbox profile. Also you can checkout my latest profile I did with XFCE to fit on one CD again. This one comes without efi-support and mostly without apps. Everything is possible if you know how to do it.

I do this already...
Method:

Code: [Select]
## efi support
#efilinux-efi
#grub-efi-i386
#grub-efi-x86_64
#gummiboot-efi
#refind-efi

and edit /usr/sbin/buildiso (lines 364 & 365)

This one comes without efi-support and mostly without apps.

Mine has a Dolphin to keep Konsole company only ;)

I was only asking whether you wanted the profile uploaded or is the target audience to narrow?

Thanks

Building 'kde_barebones' here without efi or unnecessary drivers shaves 300Mb from the iso = now 701Mb  8)

@stupely: please mail me your changes or link me your zipped archive of your profile. Then I can take a look at it. Sounds interesting.

kde_barebones attached (689Mb build).
Remember that I build with an edited /usr/sbin/buildiso (lines 364 & 365) without efi support.

I look forward to your feedback  :o

@stupely: You only modified Packages-KDE and removed efi-support by dashing some lines in manjaroiso scripts. If you download my XFCE-CD Profile you might see, that I also modified the Packages file to get even more free space.

Thanks for the tip. Yesterday I received updates for manjaroiso and a quick look and I didn't see much that changed.

Ah the perils of an untrained eye...

Will recreate a new work dir and reload my existing lists. A good exercise regardless as this will show exactly the space saving.

I was going to quiz you on this next BTW  8)

For now I trust what you have shows you what I'm doing here?

So a fresh build here now is 674Mb... a saving of a further 15Mb. All I did was substitute the xfce package list into my existing dir for this exercise.
Is this all the gains that are to be had at this stage?
