Open source drivers
« on: 08. May 2016, 01:27:24 »
Hello, I was using Manjaro xfce 15.12 with non free drivers from AMD. After trying out Ubuntu 16.04 with open source drivers I decided to try them on Manjaro. However, whichever DE and whatever version I would try, system either fails to load or install completely. I have Radeon R390 and MAnajro works fine with non free drivers. Any idea what could be the issue?

You can also try to install the latest kernel (currently) 4.6, to see if that makes any difference.

you either have to rename or dlete the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf in most distros.  Manjaro does it slightly differenet:   /etc/X11/mhwd.d/catalyst.conf .  You may want to check that before you reboot and after you delete the non-free drivers.  Not sure if it's required but it's worth trying.  Also be sure to install the free driver through manjaro settings manager.

the opensource driver i think you would want is xf86-video-amdgpu.  If it won't support your card i don't think anything will.
