Did a recent update break Steam?
« on: 30. April 2016, 05:03:59 »
Every time I try running Steam, I get this:

Code: [Select]
Running Steam on manjarolinux 16.06-pre2 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1459463254)
libGL error: unable to load driver: radeonsi_dri.so
libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: radeonsi
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

Using the "purge libraries" shortcut does NOTHING for me. Strange, because it used to work just fine before.

Wat do? I'm at my wit's end here. :P

STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam

works and I can run steam.

It's hard to know what's broken with steam though, a lot of games don't start and it's not clear if it's a game problem or a steam problem or some other problem.  Unturned hasn't worked in a month or two.

Reading update announcements is essential.

I got this error after doing that:
Code: [Select]
You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:
libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0
How would I install these?

As mentioned reading the update announcement mentions.

Steam might not work due incompatiblity of libgpg. You my try followed command to "fix" it:

Code: [Select]
find ~/.steam/root/ -name "libgpg-error.so*" -print -delete

@Rob & @Orbmiser,

The OP's problem has been around a long time.

They should try @Tids suggestion.

Steam on linux always seem to have issues. I enjoy my gaming, I tried it on linux but decided to stick to gaming on windows as it just works better & most AAA titles are only available on windows anyway. Use the best tool for the job. My windows usage is 99.99% gaming only I should add.

I find it best to use the best tool for the job, if windows does a job better then I use it but that is only 5% of the time

I managed to get it working by installing steam-native, then running it with "STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam". Running it as just "steam" takes me back to square 1.

Welp, it looks like I still have library issues running specific games, particularly Shadow Warrior Classic Redux, which I've been itching to play lately. Why are Steam and its games so insistent on using 32-bit libraries in 2016, when most of Steam's Linux users are on 64-bit systems? I'm going to see if reinstalling the OS helps, and maybe I'll look into running Steam from a 32-bit chroot.
