That's too bad, do you have the final say over what gets changed?  I'm just confused by the finality of your statement.

This and Linux Mint Forum seem to be the best ones I have been on.  I appreciate everyone that put effort into resolving my issues.

Thank you to a great community.

gnome has a very "locked-down" user experience. Can't expect a lot of customization, take for example you can't add your own wallpaper collection to the wallpaper selection UI. You need gnome-tweak-tool or dive straight into gsettings/dconf-editor to make changes. If it's customization you are after, use other mainstream DE-s aka mate kde xfce. Tweak the hell out of them.

Oh come on now, it is not that bad.  ::)

I feel like Gnome is very customizable and you are just as free to "roll your own", no need to complicate things.

Plus it is not locked-down when you can always write your own theme in the new GTK 3.X. I mean for a a person that needs freedom how much better could it get than a FOSS environment where you can actually roll your own theme?
You just have to be willing to put in the time and learn the css and what ever you need.

Yes, and you can always write your own kernel, your own tool-chain, your own libc, your own display server, your own desktop-environment. Awww! You are not a major in computer science ? Boo to whatever trade you're in. Linux isn;t meant for peasants.

Jokes apart, please don;t expect people to "write their own <insert something here>", they need to fulfil their own trades first. Doctors gotta cure, mechanics gotta oil, plumbers gotta lay the pipe, and women gotta make a sandwich and still be able to use an OS they can trust with their personal data.
Besides, as you can see in my profile, i use other mainstream desktop environments that do not need an extension or tweak-tool to support themes :P

^ Final thoughts. Let's have another reply or two from others and lock it up.

This is a great discussion (even if OT), and @badbodh's reply about it not going to happen is spot-on. Nobody that posts in these forums and probably the Arch forums has any sway on GNOME.org's decision to change anything about the DE/UI design. Period. Their decision to include the easy ability to delete files or create links in Nautilus is not new, for instance. Those are two examples of usability that they have put back in, and that only after long and very 'vocal' mailinglists arguments from users. The main GNOME developers do not want anything that changes the UI as-designed. Period. It truly is a 'branding' issue to them that it retain the look and feel as it was designed and they do not want that touched. They have taken out many usable features that were added at one time or another, and only grudgingly put some of them back.
