I haven't logged in gnome for 2 months and when I did, I discovered that title bar became light and I cannot change it by any means. Themes that previously were altering title bar to dark colors are not working anymore. Buttons change but the color always stays light.
I tried many themes and no change.

Any idea what went wrong and how to fix it?

What theme you use ?  Already update to gtk 3.20 ? Try whit arc or vertex theme ....

I have over 20 various themes installed and many of the were dark, but now they seem to lost the effect on title bar.

I use 3.18.2. I don't have vertex or clean arc but numix-sx-dark, iris-dark, arc-dark-osx should give the dark title bar but they won't. It's quite bizarre: everything becomes dark except the title bar.

Install gnome-tweak-tool, check your theme settings.

Gnome-tweak-tool comes by default in manjaro gnome so  I have it since beginning, but I'm not sure what do you mean by "theme settings". I can only choose a theme and that's all. Of course there are icons, cursors, shell theme, etc. but there are no settings for chosen theme as far I know.

Something in your theme settings is broken. You've changed something somewhere along the line and there are so many possible reasons for the issue; an edited .gtkrc, a custom theme, running a different WM (e.g. kwin) without realising. We have literally no way of knowing how you might have changed your system or how you currently have your system set up.

If you look in /var/log/pacman.log you can see which updates have been installed and when.

You might want to do a web search for "gnome window theme not change" or similar to find examples where people have a similar issue. You might attach some screenshots so we can see what you're talking about. This would give us something to start with.

While you're at it, you should read these:

I was using gnome some while ago, then missed kde, installed it and stayed on it for 2 months then I needed some change so I logged back to gnome to see the issue with the light tittle bar. Never made (consciously) any changes in gnome themes. Since I was using kde all the time, I wasn't touching any gtk settings, hence my guess that updates may have done something.

I installed vertex and here is screenshot how it looks for me:

I just hoped that this was some obvious and easy fixable mistake, hence my topic. I know too little about gnome theming so it's hard for me to find solution with the short time I have.
Anyway, thanks for trying to help. If I won't find any solution then I guess will have to learn to live with it. It's not that important.

You've got a shell theme installed. Disable that.

Setting shell to "Default" and turning off "User Themes" extension does nothing to title bar. Still looks the same with vertex-dark (like on screen above).

Pants. I thought that was similar to an issue I had a while back (incompatible shell theme made things look odd).

Edit:

I suppose the easy way to check would be to move out your existing config directories so you start fresh. Then we know if it's your config or the themes.

Well, I changed my theme so it would match light title bar and It's not so bad. Usually I prefer dark one but I guess the hassle is not worth the work. I thought that someone will know some fix for it, if not, it's fine. Besides, system works great (gnome and kde) so it's better not to tamper with it if that's not something important. At some point new install will be needed but so far I just have to adjust to that situation.
Thanks
