black screen after update and messing with libGL
« on: 07. April 2016, 15:28:56 »
Hi!
Today's update did not fully run through - apparently some files already existed (like libglvnd). So, I did a search and stumbled on this:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=208753

I used these commands:

unlink /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1
unlink /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
pacman -Syyu

But the last command did not update anything - apparently there was nothing to do. Then I made the dreadful mistake of rebooting. Now (after grub and the manjaro-logo popping up), there is a black screen.
How do I fix this? On another manjaro system these two links have the following targets: /usr/lib32/mesa/libGL.so.1.2.0 and /usr/lib/mesa/libGL.so.1.2.0 but my system has a nvidia card. I am merely spitballing, but I guess fixing this involves a live-media (I already prepared a USB-stick) and fixing these links by chrooting into it...

Fixed it my self - chroot and recreating the deleted links did the trick (folder and file name where different though). At least now I had a reason (finding out aforementioned folder and filename) to get rid of my last ubuntu system. Sorry for the fuzz - maybe an admin can delete my rather pointless posts. I guess I kinda panicked a little.

No, no. Well done. Others will find your post if they search for the same error message.

Okay, okay, I agree. Just pointing out that Linux--well, Manjaro anyway--can serve even the prurient minded.

But yeah, you only make 'normal' posts. We have to have someone around here with a rational mind to herd us along...  O:-)
