Ηow prevent the mirrorlist to be regenerated?
« on: 04. April 2016, 22:25:32 »
What I have to do if I don't want the mirrorlist to be regenerated after a pacman-mirrors package upgrade?
As I know Ι have to edit the last line of "pacman-mirrors.conf.pacnew" (in etc folder) but I'm not so sure what exactly to do.
NoUpdate=False or NoUpdate=True (without hush of course)?

If you set up a [Custom] mirrorlist you won't have to worry about it being overwritten or anything else for that matter. I run my 4 fastest mirrors in mine, I choose to pick different countries as well to help if any of them have a local problem. Using a [Custom] mirrorlist makes the pacman-mirrors -g command happen SO much faster. :) (Apart from other possible benefits that users may experience.)

My [Custom] list follows (I live in Oz):

Code: [Select]
##
## Manjaro Linux repository mirrorlist
## Generated on 02 April 2016 10:06
##
## Use pacman-mirrors to modify
##

## Location  : Custom
## Time      :  0.095
## Last Sync :
Server = http://manjaro.mirror.serversaustralia.com.au/testing/$repo/$arch

## Location  : Custom
## Time      :  0.148
## Last Sync :
Server = http://manjaro.uberglobalmirror.com/testing/$repo/$arch

## Location  : Custom
## Time      :  1.144
## Last Sync :
Server = http://ftp.lug.ro/manjaro/testing/$repo/$arch

## Location  : Custom
## Time      :  1.452
## Last Sync :
Server = http://ftp.tsukuba.wide.ad.jp/Linux/manjaro/testing/$repo/$arch

It says that it was generated on the 2nd of April, as that was the last time that when I ran the allservers script (that's how I always upgrade everyday) & it had to change the order of the repos as the allservers script does a sudo pacman-mirrors -g nearly every time I run it (using Option [3] from the menu). In truth I've been using the same [Custom] mirrorlist since way back in the early part of last year.

If you are interested in doing this yourself, here is the how-to (it is a straight forward process).
The ultimate tyranny in a society is not control
by martial law. It is control by the psychological
manipulation of consciousness, through which reality
is defined so that those who exist within do not even
realize that they are in prison.

Thank you handy!
I don't want to setup a custom mirrorlist (I have choosen "one country= Germany") and I don't want to arrange the mirrors depending on their speed (so I don't use "pacman-mirrors -g").
I arranged the servers in mirrorlist in such a way and I don't want anything to change this arrangement. For example I had an update of mirrorlist yesterday and the the arrangement changed.
Do you know maybe what I have to do with the last line of "pacman-mirrors.conf.pacnew"?

pacman-mirrors.conf.pacnew:
Code: [Select]
## When set to True prevents the regeneration of the mirrorlist if
## pacman-mirrors is invoked with the --no-update argument.
## Useful if you don't want the mirrorlist regenerated after a
## pacman-mirrors package upgrade.
# NoUpdate = False

Just putting "NoUpdate = True" in pacman-mirrors.conf will prevent the mirrors to be regenerated.
