Installed packages don't show up in the start menu
« on: 23. February 2016, 08:43:42 »
Okay, so I download a program, with sudo pacman -S, and when it gets done installing, I can open it in the terminal, but it won't show up on the menu. This is highly annoying, so if someone could help me fix this, I'd be very grateful. Thanks. :)
pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qtdq) is life.

You'll need to tell us what program you're installing, and which desktop environment the menu is running in. I'd normally assume you're using Xfce from your profile - but I've done that before and the poster was actually running KDE.

Some programs don't come with a menu entry like inxi.
By the way, run inxi -F to find out what you can fill in into your forum profile where you have "Unsure". :)

It doesn't always work, but sometimes just logging out and then back in will make a new app show in the menu. Another option sometimes is right-clicking on the menu icon, and entering the menu editor. You may find what you are looking for in there. As mentioned, some programs don't show in menus and need to be launched in a terminal.
