I'm happy to announce our nineth update of Manjaro 15.12 (Capella)!

With this we updated firefox, thunderbird, glibc, haskell, libreoffice, palemoon, lumina-desktop, arc-themes, manjaro-tools, manjaro-profile-settings, gnome, pamac, deepin, video-intel, packagekit, wine, systemd and haskell. This brings also new KDE packages and new kernel version. Remember that linux43 is now 'end of life' tagged!

Archlinux upstream fixes are now from: Sat Feb 20 10:20:00 CET 2016.

It is always good to check for updated packages, even we don't notify you about them. As usual people using our testing branch will help us to get snaps over to our stable branch almost smoothly. For notifications on daily bases please take a look at our mailing list.

Kind regards,
Philip Müller and the Manjaro Development Team

Hi,

FYI: v3.10.97, v3.14.61 and 3.18.27 are also affected.
v4.3.6 works. Looks like the patch set is only compatible with >=linux-4.3.
v3.12.54 works because it doesn't contain the patch in question.

-Thomas

How-to fix
  • You need to boot with a working live-cd
  • unlock your encrypted root partition
  • mount your root partition
  • chroot into your root partition
  • update your system to get the fixed cryptsetup package
  • run cryptsetup close root (as described in the second step)
  • reboot without live-cd
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -U http://repo.manjaro.org.uk/pool/overlay/cryptsetup-1.7.0-1.1-$(uname -m).pkg.tar.xz
If pacman complains about signatures try with:
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/cryptsetup-1.7.0-1.1-$(uname -m).pkg.tar.xz

Well shit... I nuked my system it seems. I use encrypted lvm and cannot boot into my system any longer now. Get the issue mentioned but it would have been really nice if this was mentioned before release of this update, like in large bold font on the main page. At least I can rescue files in my home folder though live cd and mounting my encrypted drive that way, but this should not have been pusged though like any other update without huge warning. Not in stable, imo.

good morning and thanks for the update. I'm experiencing a problem on my desktop computer after applying today's huge update. I've got the following error:
systemd-modules-load[234] failed to insert nvidia: exec format error. It is obviously something with the nvidia driver/modules... Any ideas?

@CykloTronic86: I don't use encryption. It was introduced with kernel 4.5-rc1 and backported to almost all current stable kernels. I'm still checking if also 3.12-series is affected by this. Upstream fixed something in their kernel but some user-space libraries didn't adopt these changes yet. Here are the proper changes needed to adopt to the new accept() invocation introduced by the fix in upstream.

I can't update, because it replaces manjaro-tools-iso-git by manjaro-tools-iso.

(edit)

Bad solved by modifying pacman.conf.

I tried with both 4.4 and 4.1

which nvidia driver do you use. Exactly with revision. Use pacman -Q | grep nvidia

You should get something like this:
Code: [Select]
pacman -Q | grep nvidia
lib32-nvidia-utils 1:352.79-1
linux310-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux312-nvidia 1:352.79-1
linux313-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux314-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux316-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux318-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux319-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux41-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux42-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux43-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux44-nvidia 1:352.79-2
linux45-nvidia 1:352.79-0.3
mhwd-nvidia 1:352.79-1
mhwd-nvidia-304xx 304.131-1
mhwd-nvidia-340xx 340.96-1
nvidia-utils 1:352.79-1

Also check that you have the latest extramodules (2016-02-21) installed. Current changes are:

Smooth update on my system, many thanks Manjaro Team (90 updates)  :)

One small query perhaps someone can answer for me?
Every time I update there is a warning: /etc/systemd/logind.conf is installed as /etc/systemd/logind.conf.pacnew
Is this a problem, and if so, how do I change this safely?
Thanks in advance!

Update on the encryption thingy. Well, if you have encrypted your system with cryptsetup 1.7.0-1 or earlier, you will still have a problem, as in the kernel doesn't support the old API anymore. So the only option for you is to keep the old kernel, until upstream has fixed that. Simply don't encrypt your HDDs :P

Quote from: Milan Broz 28 minutes ago
Yes, it will be backported there. But kernel API need to be properly patched as well (otherwise all old cryptsetup version will not work anyway).

@ahepas: I tested it before I pushed it. which exact kernel versions and modules do you use? You can't hold back the kernel but install newer extramodules compiled for a higher kernel version. If you have done that, please also hold back all your extramodules.

Thanks for you efforts @philm. Problem solved ,was a bad(?) download...The update did not download all needed packages...Since my first message I tried an update via the tty terminal which downloaded the missing packages(one of them was the new systemd and the 4.4 kernel).
