Currently dual boot - the up to date - manjaro xfce and openbox distros on a 6 year old gateway mx6440. It has the AMD Turion 64 with 2GB ram and the ati rs200 express video card with the sb400 sound card. I use the same background image and same xfce4 panel with pretty much the exact same startup (apps modules etc). Takes 51 seconds (on both) from choice of distro on the grub menu to boot all the way including making the wireless connect. I noticed that all the same apps start up at about the same rate and well overall I could not tell if there is any diff. in the two. Of course to get my desired set up was easier on xfce but only marginal. My machine runs the cores at about 50 degrees Celsius. Both performances blow out windows 8.

Love both - If I cant find a performance differences soon I will probably stick with xfce and use the other partition for tinkering with other distro's.

Anyone who reads this and can point out where I might see some performance differences favoring openbox please feel free to send me a message here or to iamk2@priest.com.

Enjoy Life!

Speaking of old hardware...
IBM T-43, Manjaro 32b XFCE edition dual booting with win7
Despite being old, my laptop runs really smoothly. No crashes nor freezes and it takes about 20 seconds between grub and login screen and 5 seconds to shutdown. I'm very satisfied with this distro.

Running the XFCE edition on a 2005 Dell Inspiron 6000 with Pentium M 1.73 GHz/1 GB RAM/80 GB HD/128 MB graphics card.  Runs pretty good with Chrome, LibreOffice, Gimp, Exaile as the main apps.

This machine also runs on many other XFCE distros quite nicely (SalineOS, LinuxMint 13, etc).
