Manjaro Gnome Edition 15.12 released
« on: 12. January 2016, 04:16:35 »

The Manjaro community is proud to present another update to the Gnome Edition installation media.

This release keeps to the style of the 15.12 release being that it is highly vanilla, but of course is up-to-date at the time of build and includes the latest Manjaro back-end infrastructure. Note this means a very vanilla Gnome configuration, it doesn’t mean ‘minimal’, the full set of Gnome software and other apps are provided out-of-the-box.

This release is produced based on the 5th of January stable branch update, a few highlights:
  • Gnome 3.18.2
  • Linux kernel 4.1.15 LTS
  • Systemd 228
  • Xorg-server 1.17.4+fixes
  • Mesa 11.1.0
  • Firefox 43.0.2
  • cogl 1.22.0-1.5 (fixed)
Further updates for some of these components are already available in our respositories.

Installed Gnome today on a Dell E6420 with Intel graphics. Runs flawless. I had been trying to install 15.09 to no avail. Thanks for the great build.

It does take a bit of effort to configure "vanilla" GNOME with extensions, themes and so on.  I wonder how many people actually use GNOME as-is.  But then when you start customizing it you run the same risk by forcing people who want vanilla or their own customizations to undo yours.  Catch 22 I guess...

That said, I installed this release on several systems with no problems.  Thanks team!

Ha, I totally agree  :) But you will find other opinions as well, for some reason there seems to be little desire to make the desktop more user friendly out of the box.  ???

That's very nice (too nice, imho) that you agree to do it, because you already have so much work with Budgie and Pantheon.

At this time pantheon repo ( aka alucryd repo ) seems freeze . Example wingapanel work only with release r90 (from bzr/bazaar) but launchpad release is in progress  ??? it seems dev pantheon works not at the same project  :P so budgie and gnome are more related and after discuss whit team i adopt it  ::)

Jeannie what benefits does that Gnome have over Mate?

Indeed, and many have praised the highly vanilla configuration of recent Manjaro Gnome releases.

Vanilla gnome shell sucks though, at least preload it with dash to dock nest round
As i'm sure you're well aware: That's subjective.

I run vanilla Gnome with only the Gnome-team-supported 'Launch new instance' extension.

My subjective opinion is that a dock/launcher being permanently displayed on the screen would suck. For me that's just a waste of screen real-estate.
I launch all my common apps with keyboard shortcuts.
