Custom Keybindings in FluxBox
« on: 08. January 2016, 20:33:24 »
First, I want to express gratitude to Oberon and all the users/testers who've brought the Manjaro version of FluxBox to its current state of awesomeness.  I had installed earlier versions in Virtualbox and liked it then, but there were issues (like getting conky to work correctly) that caused me to wait for later versions.  I have a new laptop with a 1 GB HD, so I installed the 15.12 .iso yesterday and have been pleasantly amazed ever since.

My question is, what is the proper/best way to set custom keybindings?  Years ago I adopted the Super+ system from ArchBang and have been configuring it into subsequent DE's ever since -- but I haven't found a "quick and dirty" way to do it in FluxBox.  I went to the FluxBox website and they have a lot of info there, but it's difficult to wade through and I thought I'd ask here in case someone has a convenient set of instructions.

Thanks in advance!

Hi adreampuppet! :)
The way to define your keybindings in Fluxbox is a designated config file: ~/.fluxbox/keys
There is quite a lot predefined, so I think it should not be a big problem to adjust the actual keystrokes to what your preferences are :)
Good luck!

Thanks so much, Oberon.

For anyone else wanting to add keybindings, here's a list of actions that can be assigned:  http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/docs/en/newdoc.keybindings.php#actions

And here's what my list of keybindings looks like at the end of the ~/.fluxbox/keys file:
Code: [Select]
# custom keybindings to launch frequently-used applications
Mod4 w :ExecCommand palemoon
Mod4 b :ExecCommand qupzilla
Mod4 g :ExecCommand gpodder
Mod4 v :ExecCommand vlc
Mod4 l :ExecCommand libreoffice --writer
mod4 t :ExecCommand lxterminal
mod4 f :ExecCommand pcmanfm
mod4 c :ExecCommand corebird

Now my Manjaro FluxBox is complete... :o
