Alexandre Albuquerque Arnt, a brazilian from the southern state, loves Linux and also Manjaro. He is the creator of QTgzManager. Our translation team helped him to get some languages done. So now he started a new project called Octopi

Octopi is a powerfull tool to manage ArchLinux packages. It has a simple interface which consists of just 2 panels:
  • A list of all available packages;
  • And a tab widget showing 6 useful tabs: information, files, transaction, Output, News and a quick help guide.
Some of the features:
  • Supports KDE 3.x, KDE 4.x, XFCE, LXDE, MATE and Trinity Desktop Environments;
  • Pacman sync database;
  • Pacman system upgrade;
  • Pacman clean cache;
  • Install/Re install/Upgrade/Remove selected packages – watching the output of these commands on demand – in a trasaction based abstraction;
  • View the contents of installed packages (including opening it’s files);
  • View the description of packages in tooltips, just moving the mouse over them.
This new frontend will be soon in our repositories

You can also use the attached PKGBUILD to build it on your own.

I'd suggest removing the 'This is an' etc. from the Package classification section.  :) Just a suggestion.

EDIT: Stupid predictive text

EDIT 2: should've read the post properly, nevermind, it's not an in-house project :)

I think that Octopi (qt) will be for KDE edition and pamac (gtk) for Cinnamon, XFCE, E17  ::)

It is just my opinion, let the developers choose  ;)

@ringo32

I work with Arnt since some time now. He is a good programmer. All our manjaro-tools are coded in QT. Guillaume will still improve his Pamac. We won't drop it cos of this new UI for pacman. We will simple ship both. We might even split pamac into a update notifier and package manager frontend so we don't have some duplicated applications. We also have LibreOffice Writer and AbiWord. Does one of them replace each other? Octopi is now in our Manjaro-Unstable repos and can be installed with:

Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -U http://mirror.dacentec.com/manjaro/pool/octopi-0.1.0317-1-`uname -m`.pkg.tar.xz
