Hi , first of all you have to switch to unstable repository and keep in mind : pantheon is based on gtk so you add most pkg's gtk in your plasma installation and pantheon is in development release .

If this is not problem for you i can explain the step to try installation  ;)

Hello,

I am okay for installing GTK lib (I don't really care) but I wouldn't like it's breaking my plasma desktop !

Anyway, I am curious about how to get pantheon from other manjaro distribution

You can do it by installing the community build:
https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=25043.0
But I recommend you to install it alongside your current Manjaro (KDE), just make a small partition for it (20GB is more than enough I think)
Or you can install it inside virtualbox instead.
You can also install it from AUR (just uninstall it if it's not working without breaking your Plasma desktop.
Or you can try moving to unstable branch and install it from Manjaro repositories and if it breaks your Plasma desktop then uninstall pantheon and move back to stable branch.
Those are your alternatives, just choose what you prefer. :)

Hello ! I cannot install it via iso because i'm not using LVM partition.

I would like install it from AUR repository but I don't know where to find the "manjaro layer" of pantheon. Do you know Where ?

Kind regards

First of all this is my last community iso
https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=26954.msg226998#msg226998
Then why use aur ? My iso and arch pure installation not use aur . It use unofficial repo of Alucryd
http://pkgbuild.com/~alucryd/
Concept of crazy4merz is right , install in a vbox or in a separated partition ( lvm why use it? Is an option but not a rule )

Then for install pantheon i used an net install . But you start with plasma and i suggest to backup your installation via timeshift program or similar .

Well start : but reccomend a backup please
change repository permanently to unstable :
Code: [Select]
sudo kate /etc/pacman-mirrors.confand change branche stable to unstable .
Save and open terminal :
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -SyuNow your system is up to date with unstable branch
now open pacman.conf
Code: [Select]
sudo kate /etc/pacman.confand add this at the end of file
Code: [Select]
[pantheon]
SigLevel = Optional
Server = http://pkgbuild.com/~alucryd/$repo/$arch

[pantheonrepo]
SigLevel = Optional TrustAll
Server = http://download.tuxfamily.org/repoarch/pantheonrepo/$arch
now in a terminal
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -Syy
All of you need to install pantheon is end

The pantheonrepo is my repo where i moved the pkg not present on aur but all *.manjaro.pkg.* are deprecated .

Now i suggest to install lightdm because sddm not sure working with pantheon .
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S lightdm lightdm-kde-greeter
pkg for pantheon
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S ido libunity gtk-theme-elementary-bzr plank-bzr gala-bzr pantheon-session-bzr slingshot-launcher-bzr wingpanel-bzr wingpanel-indicator-notifications-bzr wingpanel-indicator-ayatana-bzr wingpanel-indicator-datetime-bzr wingpanel-indicator-network-bzr wingpanel-indicator-power-bzr wingpanel-indicator-session-bzr wingpanel-indicator-sound-bzr wingpanel-indicator-launcher-bzr pantheon-default-settings-bzr elementary-icon-theme-bzr pantheon-backgrounds-bzr elementary-add-icon-theme-git plank-theme-pantheon-bzr contractor-bzr pantheon-calculator-bzr pantheon-files-bzr pantheon-print-bzr pantheon-terminal-bzr scratch-text-editor-bzr snap-photobooth-bzr pantheon-photos switchboard-bzr switchboard-plug-default-applications-bzr switchboard-plug-power-bzr switchboard-plug-elementary-tweaks-bzr switchboard-plug-desktop-bzr switchboard-plug-keyboard-bzr switchboard-plug-about-bzr switchboard-plug-display-bzr switchboard-plug-datetime-bzr switchboard-plug-network-bzr switchboard-plug-notifications-bzr switchboard-plug-online-accounts-bzr switchboard-plug-security-privacy-bzr switchboard-plug-display-bzr elementary-dpms-helper-bzr dconf-editor gamin gconf gnome-keyring gnome-control-center
You can try to start with sddm and istall lightdm after if not run.
Remember to activate lightdm via systemctl and if your password to login contain number install another pkg: numlockx
and activate in lightdm.conf

after that logout and .... cross the fingers  ;) ;) O:-) O:-)

There's no need for LVM to install it I guess.
Just follow the guide by Ste74 above, he's the maintainer of those packages :)

You missed the
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman-mirrors -g after changing the repository :)
I suggested the AUR way because he doesn't want to risk breaking his plasma 5. But actually all we need to do after breaking from unstable branch is to change back to stable again though.

So I think Nymeria should just do it the way Ste74 suggested  ;)

If you want stay with pantheon not possible revert to stable because alucryd repo is based on arch and manjaro unstable = arch . This is the reason because my iso is called dev ( development ) :P

Hello,

I've download an Manjaro KDE iso.

After the fresh install (and update) into a virtualbox,  I've try to install pantheon by following your instruction and it don't work at all.

Almost every application into my plank are KDE application. When I try to close an application (by clicking on close icon) it doesn't work.
The menu at the top doesn't appear ass well.

To be honest, it appear to be totaly broken.

Kind regards

What is your level of experience in linux world ?  :o

If you install DE into another DE you have all application of all DE installed and you see in menù ecc .. this is normal and is the reason because not install DE into De but prefer a clean installation of DE .

I haven't read your patch, it's my fault, I haven't try to fix it before posting.

Like I said I come from ubuntu and usually when I have two different desktop on the same computer, it's work out the box.

I will try again pantheon desktop in few months, I would like to use for my work desktop and I can't afford to use something broken.

Thank a milllion for your amazing workd.

Like Ste74 said, Pantheon in Arch is in development. I don't think choosing Manjaro to get a fully stable Pantheon desktop is a good choice for your work desktop.
If you want to have a stable desktop experience, go for Manjaro XFCE. If you only want Pantheon and expecting it to be super stable, go for Elementary OS. Because Pantheon is made by Elementary and for Elementary. It's hard to maintain it in Arch/Manjaro, a package update can break your Pantheon immediately.
Good luck  :)
