Hey, Ste74: Manjaro base, unstable repos, Budgie DE (only), GNOME packages, Mjro tools, network-manager, lightdm, lts-kernel, etc. Ps_mem = 291MB, Free -m = 250MB.

This is my new Budgie DE, thanks to Ikey Doherty (SolusOS), you & Manjaro. Thanks! :D

Well now budgie is in stable repo .. now can build a stable iso for this environment  ;)

Unused mate in my experience in linux  ::) but budgie environment is plus lighter than mate or equal ? Only curiosity  :P

It *feels* a bit lighter than MATE to me but I do not normally run MATE. I normally run GNOME and Budgie is way lighter. It is like MATE, but with GTK3, which is still *experimental* in MATE. Budgie replaces the shell in GNOME. Budgie may be a lightweight DE but I use it to run GNOME applications, and that is where it shines best so far.

It is still a bit rough at the moment--I wouldn't want it on a production machine yet--but it is a brand new DE so that is to be expected. I will probably return to GNOME shortly until Ikey adds a bit more polish to it. :)

Regards.

Ste74, I re-installed your Budgie since you upped it to Stable, and I'm glad. You had a couple of packages I did not that makes the interface feel much "smoother." I also found a couple of tricks...

Post-install & update, if the user also installs package group "gnome-shell" (total about 1.5 MB) you can then boot into GNOME and using Tweak Tool can: A) add minimize/maximize window buttons, B) tweak Nautilus settings--for instance, I like "open with 1-click" and C) other GNOME features like this in Lollypop and probably a few other GNOME applications that put a conf or pref settings in the GNOME top panel. When done, you can logout of GNOME, log back into Budgie and remove "gnome-shell." The settings changes you make will remain.

I also like adding "gnome-session properties" from AUR so I can adjust a few startup services/apps, but that's an individual preference.

Regards.

Exciting stuff! IMHO, Budgie DE is gonna take Linux by storm in 2016.  With competition from oberon's Deepin DE. ;)

Now Budgie is working!! I could play around and configure it. Very nice effects, handy desktop. The menu is a bit peculiar.
It hanged at some point, but that happens to me too with Cinnamon. I guess is a GTK 3 related thing. Or maybe Python that is failing after the last two updates.
Anyway, I'm loving Budgie and looking forward to see the improvements to come.
Thanks!!!!  :D
