@Fatboy, Xfce is perfect and it is got much better with the last release, as well as LXDE by th way. Were the not the need for migrating from gtk2 to gtk3, because gtk2 is running out of time. :(

@eugen-b I love XFCE, nothing compares. The most bargain for your buck, so to speak.haha. I also enjoy LXDE :)
I do have one issue and that is the compositor, I think they should switch to compton along with the compton-conf gui by default? Or do you think that's a bad idea?

I wouldn't like to start a discussion about Xfce in a Pantheon thread. What I wanted to say, that Xfce and LXDE might be gone (in the sense of not being developed further) in two years should they not achieve the transition to gtk3. They are a bit late already compared with MATE.
About Compton: I remeber, it was dificult enough for me during my first steps with Linux to discover how these compositors work. I started with Makulu and it had Compiz. I tried to apply some settings to it which quickly resulted in an unworkable  system (at least for a noob) and a new install of Manjaro Netbook Edition. There I saw th compositor checkbox and quickly closed the window before I could make s.th. wrong again.
Conclusion: a compisitor should be easy to set up, ideally one checkbox and three options; it should be compatible for most hardware (Xrender backend is best for it, GLX depends on GPU capabilities). I think Xfce compositor does exactly this. MATE's compositor Marco, too. And when a user is advanced enough he can install Compton. Using pseudo-transparency of the panel is also an option for a newbie instead of using a compositor.
I see Budgie to become the sucessor of Xfce and LXDE for low resource DEs.

Good job ste74! This looks amazing! I am quite a fan of the pantheon DE, although it felt a bit sluggish on top of ubuntu 14.04. I'm assuming it's way faster on manjaro? :)

To say s.th. on-topic here: I've tested Stefano's Pantheon only on live USB, but did it several times for several hours. It is snappy even on a usb with all its eye candy! My problem with it is, that I don't understand how to change its look, but there is not much need for this, because it looks and works well.

@eugen-b I hear ya, you make some good points :) Let's hope XFCE can make the transition in time,
And yes, we should probably stick to pantheon-related discussions.

Good to hear it's snappy. I really enjoy the DE. Especially if you want to have a very simple, easy to use DE. I'm also very excited about budgie :) I think when it has matured a bit it would fly on top of a manjaro system :D

On another note, I know that Pantheon is forked from gnome 3, how do they compare in terms of resource usage? Also, as far as I know, you can only change the icon themes, with two options with regards to the look - light and dark. (just like gnome)

On my 2-2.1GHz computers Pantheon ran well, but Gnome not so. Especially when I opened the Activities. I used the same USB stick, my fastest 8GB. MATE didn't run faster than Pantheon. KDE 5 ran ok, too, but the menu didn't show up instantly. But didn't make any benchmarks.

Sure and is simply :
install budgie-dsktop
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S budgie-desktopthen navigate with dconf-editor in this key :
org>pantheon>desktop>cerbere
and change the key 'wingpanel' with 'budgie-panel'
close dconf-editor and open a console and type
Code: [Select]
killall wingpanelenjoy  ;)

P.s. have you launch my script at the first msg to rebase pantheon-shell ?

Yes and it works well.

By cons, it is impossible to close or reduce dconf, firefox, ..., with the cross. I have to go through File> Quit. A solution ?
