[Bumblebee] Issues on Nvidia bumblebeed machines
« on: 05. July 2015, 21:22:11 »
hi,

There seems here and there some nvidia bumblebeed machines. i will try to help to solve this issues but it comes back here and there, i find it very comeback to much. Help to bann this issue...

it goes like this threat : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=185865
in other manjaro threats seems so different. find it weird. had someoine tried with this solution
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bumblebee#systemd-logind:_failed_to_get_session:_PID_XXX_does_not_belong_to_any_known_session

but doesnt seems to work.

if you got this issue.

please give some info. like example :

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i acpi
systemctl status -l bumblebeed
dmesg logs
kernel use etc etc

output of optirun glxgears , as example

personal i think its something to acpi to bbswitch .. but i dont know :(

Maybe not a bad idea to include:
Code: [Select]
inxi -G

its not logind, is the xorg server failing to start the secondary gpu.

https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/commit/b506a03abab85bc202109f8eeda5c337ee956935
https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/issues/600

Every time I had this problem I just fixed it by using a different kernel version, sometimes some kernels are just broken with bumblebee and certain nvidia cards.

Following the post starting the acpid service MAY resolve this (in my laptop I don't need this), but there is a rejected pull request that says that bumblebee has nothing to do with acpid...

Noted: Edited the topic title to remove system-logind, as it is misleading where the issue is.

So i'll only have to use another kernel to solve the problem? i've tried switching to 4.11 kernel but it still got the same error.

edit: mhwd isn't able to install the non-free nvidia module automatically by using mhwd -f -a pci 0300 , i have to manually install it then nvidia driver. and now it turns to "Can not load GPU driver" :(.
I'm using nvidia 940M on asus K501LB...

Try to enabling acpid "sudo systemctl enable acpid.service && sudo systemctl start acpid.service"

acpid is active for me, but I still can't get it to work. As a last-ditch effort, I'll try rolling back my kernel to 3.10 (currently I'm on 3.16). I'll report back if it works or not.

Rolling back my kernel *kind of* worked. I'm now able to launch firefox, but `optirun` still isn't working.

Code: [Select]
bsima $ optirun -vv glxgears

Additionally, my laptop screen is not being configured properly, but my external HDMI monitor is. So at least I can use my laptop with an external monitor.

Code: [Select]
bsima $ xrandr --output eDP1 --auto

I think it's related to this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=137753

Hello guys,

I'm new to Manjaro and am having a similar issue right now. My Nvidia bumblebeed setup was working fine til last week but when I've logged in yesterday, I had a blank screen. I tried troubleshooting by following this https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Configure_NVIDIA_(non-free)_settings_and_load_them_on_Startups but was not successful. I cannot even access the tty* terminals when I install a driver (both free or non-free) using
Code: [Select]
sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300. I have to append "single" in the kernel boot option to have an access to the terminal again as root. Also, after following https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=3385.0 to enable bumblebeed service at startup. It doesn't seem to work as after rebooting and checking its status using
Code: [Select]
systemctl status bumblebeed, the service is still inactive.

I hope someone could shed some light with these problem.

I have more of a question than a solution, with these new nvidia proprietary drivers(version 346 to 355), can the nvidia control center even work for card switching just like Mint or Ubuntu and stop using bumblebee altogether? It works very well on those distros I can even use my HDMI port on my XPS. I'm just looking for an excuse to go back to Manjaro :)

I just updated my manjaro after not using it for quite a while and now i cannot launch steam because it says there is no GLX:

Code: [Select]
[bon@manjaro[~]$inxi -G
Graphics:  Card-1: Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller
           Card-2: NVIDIA GM204 [GeForce GTX 970]
Display Server: X.Org 1.17.4 driver: intel Resolution: 1920x1080@60.00hz
GLX Renderer: N/A GLX Version: N/A

Oddly enough, optirun works when primus does not. I do not understand why:

Optirun also showed the spheres and ran perfectly.

primus:
