Dual monitor, primary display always the left monitor
« on: 27. February 2013, 04:26:15 »
Hi guys!

I've got a dual monitor setup with 2 DVI. I'm running the Manjaro 0.8.4 XFCE and I use the proprietary nvidia driver.
My problem is that I can't set my right monitor as primary. It will be always the left one as primary.
I tried everything in the nvidia panel but nothing seems to affect anything and I tried the xrandr way with the help of ArchWiki but it doesn't work either...

It seems to come from XFCE because I found a similar issue there: https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=6440

Otherwise, congrats for the Manjaro Team for this userfriendly distro based on Arch.

Hello,

I tried this command:
xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-1/output-name

But it returns me:
Property "/panels/panel-1/output-name" does not exist on channel "xfce4-panel".

I saw that my panel's name is Panel 0 so I tried to replace panel-1 by panel-0 but it gave me the same thing above.

EDIT:
After reading the XFCE doc. I found this:
xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels -l -v
/panels                           1
/panels/panel-0/autohide          false
/panels/panel-0/background-style  0
/panels/panel-0/length            100
/panels/panel-0/length-adjust     true
/panels/panel-0/mode              0
/panels/panel-0/plugin-ids        <<UNSUPPORTED>>
/panels/panel-0/position          p=6;x=800;y=15
/panels/panel-0/position-locked   true
/panels/panel-0/role              xfce4-panel-12965750720
/panels/panel-0/size              27

But this solution is only about moving the panel. And by the GUI I can do it. But I want all the notifications, new windows open, etc... on my right monitor.
Because I can cheat and move the panel & plank to the right but it will be still "broken".

I've always noticed that the notifications always show up on the monitor your currently active in.
I like this setup and haven't tried to find another solution.

Have you tried the settings editor ?
Click on menu->settings->settings editor->displays  Scroll to the monitor you're using and click on the primary variable and edit it. (both monitors)

Thanks guys for your replies.
amboyguy, I hadn't tried but it didn't work.
After what frustratedtech wrote. I noticed this and I'm ok with it.
For my panel and plank. I just set up the output "manually" in the preferences.
Looking forward about XFCE 4.12 who seems to bring multi monitors support enhancement.
