Is there a way to make the openbox menu bigger ?
« on: 23. August 2014, 18:24:45 »
Hi,

Recently I switched from LXQT to openbox. All seems fine, the only problem is the obmenu is appearing too small coz my monitor is positioned slightly far away from me.

How do I make the obmenu bigger ?

Yes!

open .config/openbox/rc.xml with your favorite text editor and find this line:

Code: [Select]
<font place="MenuItem">
      <name>sans</name>
      <size>9</size>
      <!-- font size in points -->
      <weight>normal</weight>
      <!-- 'bold' or 'normal' -->
      <slant>normal</slant>
      <!-- 'italic' or 'normal' -->

Change the "9" to whatever font size you want, and your menu will get bigger once you reconfigure openbox or restart.

That's what I was thinking. Doesn't obconf make that and other modifications easier?

I used obconf. Changed Menu header and Menu item to 16.

Awesome.  I didn't know you could do that with obconf. I'm just so used to editing the xml and text files. Glad you found a simpler way!

OR...you could just right-click, Settings>Openbox Configuration Manager>Appearance, and change the font size(s) there.

I think that's the same application.

All you have to do is change your font size ;)

Yep. Just the GUI way of doing it. :)

All you have to do is change your font size ;)

That's correct. But changing the font size of the theme under Customize Look and Feel does not change the default sizes of the Menu font. :)

Indeed. "Customize Look and Appearance" is a link to lxappearance, whereas "Openbox Configuration Manager" is a link to obconf.
