It's very user friendly, yes. For the moment, it is in my personal test ISO.

Hmm; I did again ( ;D) some tries with Cantata : seems lighter (2 times at least), a bit more functionnalies, and Qt5-based.

Just "a bit more functionality"?!! Come on Esclapion, you're hurting my feelings! Please use and play with it a little more and you'll see the light!! Cantata+MPD is the best kept secret of audio playback, just because MPD was a bit confusing to configure before (or in some non-Arch based distros).

Though one can use Cantata in minimal mode like (a much better) Clementine or Audacious (itself seemingly soon to be Qt based: http://redmine.audacious-media-player.org/boards/1/topics/1269), it has an unequal album grid view sorted by albumartist tag instead of artist and album mode view in playlist and playque panes. Without the former a music player is not really functional, because one cannot remember all his/her albums/tracks, so needs a visual clue to browse and find an album or track, more so with classical music where album titles are rarely meaningful. Album mode view in playlists where albums are grouped, not shown as useless track lists is another fine convenience, because if you've got more than 100 albums you might need playlists containing whole albums as well as only songs. And all those and playlist/playques are managed very logically, easily.

Besides, all those are gstreamer based apps and gstreamer's gapless capability is (or hopefully was) shaky. There are many gapless albums and those gaps are really gaps in the middle of the music in those albums which are simply unacceptable.

Cantata can even extract audio using paranoia, edit tags, (as a true audiophile player) has bit perfect output etc. and all those with minimal resource consumption.

EDIT: Well, you've already seen the light without my rant here!

Hello,
about cantata, any possibility to get the whole library as an always up-to-date playlist ? i had a try but didn't find a clue. i just like listening my whole music database with a big shuffle  ;D
i'm used to Gmusicbrowser which is written in Perl and uses Mplayer as playing engine but with the latest perl package update, it is broken and i cannot use it until a future fix.
i also had a try on Clementine, it could do the job but i see a higher CPU load than what i got with gmusibrowser or what i saw trying cantata

I was looking for that too. Frome what I've found so far, you can add multiple albums to a new playlist and then use random play against that list.

1. On the Artists or Folders tab select the first artist/album in the list
2. Press <shift> and select the last artist/album
3. Right click anywhere in the selected list and choose add to new playlist
4. Give the list a name
5. In the playlist tab right click the new list and choose Add to play queue
6. Select random play button at bottom and select play...

There may be a way using dynamic playlist rules but it doesn't seem to like wild cards

I also found a problem when creating playlists using the aforementioned method where it seems to break when cue sheets are present.

Code: [Select]
You cannot add parts of a cue sheet to a playlist! (cue:///Pink Floyd/Japanese Remasters/1988 -...
I guess that needs to be reported as a bug.

hi Salinko,

indeed it could do the trick but i didn't find a way to get a dynamic playlist, or at least the possibility to refresh the playlist so that it reflects the music library contents (new or removed albums).

Have you installed and configured MPD (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mpd)?
