Lets Make Pamac better :)

is it Possible,  when you install a programm like ehh Banshee when you have in it, it install standard with all of those depencys

Most issues on some it dont give the optional Depencys..Standard..so it has to search what you have to install :o to get it work like installing k3b but you will miss someting important what you wanna use.

What my suggestion is, when you something install,  it give a menu what it will install standard now, but let is also a new window to suggest which optional Depencys you wanna install it.
sometimes dont need it. but you can check those and will install with it ! thats also an ask from someone.

this thing is just user friendly too :)

if this can work..

is good :)

Please also watch this video before you update: Current situation with pamac

Guillaume is on vacation for three weeks or so. I recommend to collect some ideas and present them to him when he comes back.

how can it make better. pamac is build on Pyalmp, updater like kalu, they pick some information almp i suppose.

personally i just thinking, make an framework of python. arround an terminal. you can even make it unseen or seen. status panel and further the updates goes through sort of terminal.

like using some code from pyqonsole (aur) written in python.. let the updater take pacman update ... if it could some buttons for eventually yes or not when needed..

its not only that.. its also sort usefull to have a sort of Fix-update option.
i mean when is had some glitches and missed Manjaro-system..just hit the fix button and let manjaro-system work again..

only he has also to focus to manjaro-system bit more when it recognize in syncfirst and show up it should know for sure when its ready..

was my thought?

pamac 0.7.5.1 fixes the libcl bug. Now only this bug remains:

Quote
–> transaction preparation failed, pm_errno 45 (could not satisfy dependencies), [('openobex', 'bluez-libs', None), ('blueman', 'bluez-libs', None)]

So I tested it once more and found this out:

Code: [Select]
Grub replaces:

pamac
grub-common will be replaced by grub
grub-bios will be replaced by grub
grub-efi-i386 will be replaced by grub
grub-efi-x86_64 will be replaced by grub

pacman
:: Replace grub-bios with core/grub? [Y/n]
:: Replace grub-common with core/grub? [Y/n]
:: Replace grub-efi-i386 with core/grub? [Y/n]
:: Replace grub-efi-x86_64 with core/grub? [Y/n]

Bluez replaces

pamac
bluez will be replaced by bluez-utils

pacman
:: Replace bluez with extra/bluez-utils? [Y/n]
:: Replace bluez with extra/bluez4? [Y/n]

Other replaces

pamac
pyqt-common will be replaced by pyqt4-common
python2-pyqt will be replaced by python2-pyqt4
webkitgtk3 will be replaced by webkitgtk
lib32-dbus-core will be replaced by lib32-dbus

pacman
:: Replace pyqt-common with extra/pyqt4-common? [Y/n]
:: Replace python2-pyqt with extra/python2-pyqt4? [Y/n]
:: Replace webkitgtk3 with extra/webkitgtk? [Y/n]
:: Replace lib32-dbus-core with multilib/lib32-dbus? [Y/n]

bluez gets replaced by two packages. This situation pamac can't handle yet. I'm currently looking into it.

@philm it was also when you saw Manjaro-system it was in a flash en later it took the other updates..
manjaro-system is a key of manjaro it should have some time and work space in pamac.

synchfirst option doesnt work proper.

I usually use pacman but an option I think would help that is in octopi is when you install or update you can tell it to update or install in terminal so you can see what's going on.  This is the main reason I prefer octopi over pamac.

Hey, I'm back now.
I'm so sorry for the trouble you had with pamac.
The libcl bug was fixed in git the 19th of July but I didn't have time to publish it before be living my house. It is fixed in pamac 0.7.5.1 thanks to philm who made a version from git when I was in vacation.
I didn't experience the bluez replace bug. I will investigate...

Hi Guillaume,

great, you're back. I hope we can fix the bluez bug. Simply use the 0.8.6 release in a Virtualbox and test it. For this case I've also a box set-up to see if it works.
The git is now on our gitlab. Please sync from it. I like pamac more than octopi, which is now also fully supported by Manjaro. Together we get it done.

Add your ssh-key to gitlab and get on working. Gave you the needed rights. Now you have the same as me and Roland.

We will soon update to pamac 0.8.0 which will be based on our custom pyalpm package.

The main features are:
- new gui
- stable (as far as we tested it) backend for updates or transactions with Guillaume's custom pyalpm
- you can install local packages from pamac-manager (you can also do it from cli with pamac-install cmd or from your file manager)
- an about window (not really a feature)

Guillaume updated pamac to 0.9-series with followed changes:

The dbus daemon is back to perform transactions so GUI is launched as normal
user, that fixed some bugs which came with pamac 0.8. Pamac-install should also
works fine now from file managers and cli accepts again relative paths.
I added a close button in pamac-updater and the apply button is unclikable when
no updates are available. Pamac-tray high cpu usage bug should be completely
fixed. I also improve the kernel modules check so now pamac should acts as
mhwd-kernel(more tests needed).

Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -U http://repo.manjaro.org.uk/pool/overlay/pamac-0.9-1-any.pkg.tar.xz

to guinux:

in another thread ( http://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=7617.0 ), linuxpcplus mentioned a program called "pkgbrowser", which has all packages from arch/manjaro repositories sorted nicely in categories.

pamac has also a section called "groups", but the groups/categories of pkgbroswser are a lot easier for newbies. there are also more categories with easier names e.g. games, media, video, audio, etc.

do you know pkgbrowser? how do you like it?
do you think you can integrate the best parts of pkgbrowser into pamac? if not, is it possible to combine pkgbrowser with pamac (search packages in pkgbrowser and download+dependencies+install them with pamac)?
