I installed the free on my test laptop, and no problem so far, except the annoying 90 second delay at shutdown. Is there any reason that the default systemd/system.conf is set at 90 seconds for start, and stop timeout instead of 5 seconds for example?

Tried Manjaro XFCE 16.06 Pre 3 64-bit running open-source driver (AMD) on same computer.

Fast boot up and shutdown.  XFCE isn't my first desktop choice, but everything ran smoothly.

Twenty hours ago I uploaded another development release to reflect current changes in our unstable branch.

I just installed this release (XFCE) and. . .boom! My desktop is now unusable. Mouse is "hidden" as in I can tell it's there when I move over an icon but I can't see it. It eventually showed up but it was the "X" not pointer but I couldnt do much. Several menus are unusable or missing, wallpaper is gone and on and on.

I'm assuming that when I installed 16 a config file was damaged because when I went back to 15 all the same problems occurred. Even tried Antergos and same thing.

Is there a way to fix the config without a total clean install? I sure hope so!

Just tried Manjaro KDE Minimal 16.06 Dev (May 1) testbuild...  Wow!  The desktop loaded beautifully!  I haven't had the desktop load this good since 0.8.13.  Day and night compared to Pre 3.  No boot errors (in Pre 3 backlight would fail durning boot).

Only problems (so far):
1.  Catalyst Control Center doesn't load.
2.  Youtube in Firefox is slow and choppy.  Worked flawlessly in Chromium.
3.  Slow shutdown.  Over a minute.

Same situation!!

It's an upstream (Arch) bug. You can fix it by altering two lines in systemd.conf. It is mentioned elsewhere in the forum several times.

New linux user and new system.  I installed the Xfce 64-bit 16.06prev3 (27 April) perfectly smoothly.  UEFI, Skylake, running non-free Nvidia drivers.

A couple of things I have noted (could well be off topic...).
- The system seems noticeable slower after restart.
- Every time I boot a new entry is made in my BIOS settings for a bootable disk.

Hi, there's a typo in French Calamares.
In the "Utilisateurs" (users) section :
Code: [Select]
Quel est vote nom ?Should be :
Code: [Select]
Quel est votre nom ?("r" is missing in "votre").

I'd like to share my experience from the latest build, downloaded only about 3 hours earlier, and installed on new virtual machines.

Bottom line, I was able to make it work only using Calamares, and had some issues after.
Here's what I tried:

1st virtual machine, using CLI installer, because I need an additional locale, and Calamares doesn't offer the option.

Used the auto partition option.
Device name scheme selected: FSUUID

While in the 3rd step, "installing system", After the systemD configuration message, I saw a flash of an error message, but it was gone too fast, and I don't know where to look for it.

Once the installation was completed, I tried to boot into it, and got kernel panic. Image attached.

Next, I decided to try Calamares, to see if it'll be better.
I created a new virtual machine, and started again.

As mentioned above, I don't see an option for additional locale. Only a change of the main one.

"Running unpackfs" step was slow enough to make me think it's stuck. I aborted once and started with a new vm. Second time was just as slow, but I decided to wait anyway.
With the CLI it seemed faster.

Once I was able to get into the system, I wanted to see the shared folders I defined for the vm.

There was no /media folder.

Last, I tried to install openbox, because that's my preferred configuration, but got the error:

Code: [Select]
conflicting files:
manjaro-openbox-settings: /etc/skel/.xinitrc already exists in filesystem.

These seem to be small things, but Manjaro is supposed to make life easier for users, and encourage noobies, and for those, these are no small things.

My 2 cents.

I have encountered the common updating issue, which was solved quickly via https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=12383.0 (deleting a single file per terminal)
Setting my external monitor at home as default even after reboots took me a while too, but after all there was only a little box to check in the display menu and this problem was solved aswell.
Apart from that, Manjaro is running fine so far! General performance, stability, design and choice of pre-installed software is fine. Xfce menus are really intuitive. Maia mouse theme pleases me, too.

I thought migrating from Win7 comes with more issues, but seriously no. Thumbs up  :)

One thing I would clearly state in the future is that pre-release can be considered as stable, this might reduce some confusion for beginners and you get more feedback in time.
