Have a look here and here for ideas, it uses a dynamic menu...

Hi LizBeth1

Did you have any luck?

I tried adding this 'pipemenu' item to the menu.xml file:

Code: (xml) [Select]
<menu  execute="/usr/bin/obmenu-generator -i" id="apps" label="apps" />
However the executable /usr/bin/obmenu-generator is not found. Where can this be obtained?

Code: [Select]
pacman -Qs "openbox"shows ob stuff installed. I gave up on dynamic menus long ago because they never work no matter how hard you try. I use a static menu which I update by hand now and then. Arch Linux package archlinux-xdg-menu can create one. The command (good to alias in your shell) is something like this on Arch or Antergos.
Code: [Select]
xdg_menu --die-on-error --format openbox3-pipe --root-menu /etc/xdg/menus/arch-applications.menu > "${XDG_CONFIG_HOME}/openbox/menu-apps.xml"

I found a similar solution installing

open-xdgmenu

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/openbox-xdgmenu/

and is dependency

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gnome-menus2/

it works with the line following line in ~/.config/openbox/menu.xml

<menu execute="openbox-xdgmenu /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu" id="desktop-app-menu" label="More apps"/>

----

There is a useful 'recent files (xbel)' pipemenu here

https://github.com/super-nathan/cb-pipemenus/blob/master/cb-recent-files-pipemenu

There is a list here, but many broken links

http://openbox.org/wiki/Openbox:Pipemenus

Looks interesting. Do you use it instead of the Openbox menu?
