Title: Binary repo for LXQt (Arch compatible) available
Post by: Esclapion on 15. May 2014, 15:12:43
(Edit of 2014-08-30)

OBSOLETE : repo moved to Sourceforge, look HERE (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=16124.0).

Hi all  :)

I'm trying to do one. For the moment, it's only ready for x86_64. To use it, you must (as root) :

1) install the net-edition ;

2) modify your /etc/pacman.conf by adding at end :

Code: [Select]
[repolxqt]
SigLevel = Optional TrustAll
Server = http://esclapion.free.fr/lxqt/$arch/repolxqt/

and then :

Code: [Select]
pacman-mirrors -g && pacman -Syy && pacman -Su
3) install the main packages of the lxqt library :

Code: [Select]
pacman -S lxqt-desktop-git
4) install a windows manager :

Code: [Select]
pacman -S openbox
5) install a file manager :

Code: [Select]
pacman -S libexif pcmanfm-qt-git
6) install a terminal (lxterminal, qterminal, etc...) :

Code: [Select]
pacman -S qterminal-git
7) install a login manager (sddm, lxdm, lightdm, etc...) and activate it :

Code: [Select]
pacman -S sddm-git
systemctl enable sddm

8) install a pack of icons (faenza-green-icon-theme, etc...)

Code: [Select]
pacman -S oxygen-icons
9) reboot your PC, and think to choose as session Lxqt-session  ;). You must obtain something as :

The previous manual is minimum, the desktop is not yet complete.

1) lxqt modules not included in lxde-desktop (but in repolxqt) :

- lximage-qt-git : image viewer ;
- lxqt-appswitcher-git : applications switcher ;
- lxqt-power-git ;
- compton-conf-git : configuration of compton ;
- lxqt-lightdm-greeter-git : greeter for lightdm ;
- obconf-qt-git : openbox configurator ;

2) others interesting basic applications :

- juffed : pure qt text editor (repolxqt) ;
- screengrab : screenshot capture ;
- qps : task monitoring ;
- xpdf : pdf viewer (repolxqt)

3)  others

- manjaro-artwork ; manjaro wallpapers ;
- artwork-menda : manjaro theme ;
- manjaro-flat : openbox complementary theme.

All comments on this list and on the preceeding user's manual are welcome.  :)

I'm attempting to install LXQT from the repo mentioned above. I'm getting a 404 error for lxqt-policykit-git-0.7.0.1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz.  Just wanted to let you know.  Thanks for the tutorial and the ISO. :)

Hi Esclapion,

Indeed it's not there:

http://esclapion.free.fr/lxqt/x86_64/repolxqt/ (http://esclapion.free.fr/lxqt/x86_64/repolxqt/)

I'm also trying to install right now ;-)
Title: Re: Binary repo for LXQt (Arch compatible) available
Post by: Esclapion on 18. May 2014, 01:41:19
True, it isn't in my repo.  :(  Probably because polkit-git is missing.

It's too late now (1h40), I add both tomorrow begin of  afternoon.  ;)

(edit)

I must first understand why it's good on my PC.

@ Sunburst : thanks for the report, corrected and uploaded now for x86_64. I will now work on i686.

If you prefer 30' of compilation... lxde-desktop is not a complete desktop.

Great work Esclapion.

Will this update as new versions of applications get released? (from git or final)
Should I use your repo or is it something similar in Arch repos? Why did you create your repo?

Hi hype,  :)

yes, from time to time, and sure for the 0.8.

Quote

lol, you can do as you want.  ;) There are almost 30 modules to compile with yaourt and on my PC (old, but a quad hyperthreaded at 2,8 Ghz) almost 30'. With binary repo, no time of compilaton, only download and installation.

This repo is also a working snapshot of the development, I tested it. If something is wrong, I discuss with the devs before updating it.

And at the begin, some modules were not compiling. Now, only one is missing in AUR.

Else, I follow the mailing list and survey all the new things, for example QT5 coming.

Thanks for sharing your repo, really wanted to test lxqt out and you have done all the work for me  ;)

If you do not mind can I add repo to ArchBang wiki on lxqt to allow our users to try it out? Of course I will refer to you in the guide.

Hi,

Sure, you can.  :D We are in the Linux community, and my job is mainly based on PKGBUILD of AUR.

Hi sdch,  :)

The icon, you mean ? Because network manager is sure installed.

Try a :

Code: [Select]
pacman -Qs networkmanager

you must obtain :

Code: [Select]
local/network-manager-applet 0.9.8.10-1
    GNOME frontends to NetWorkmanager
local/networkmanager 0.9.8.10-1
    Network Management daemon
local/networkmanager-dispatcher-ntpd 1.0-6
    Dispatcher Script for ntpd

Well I am running ArchBang so we do not ship with it... easy fix though. Got sddm running autologin just setting up lxqt now
Title: Re: Binary repo for LXQt (Arch compatible) available
Post by: Esclapion on 21. May 2014, 11:41:47
When autologin is enabled, policykit doesnt work for me. So, to configure wifi, I have a problem, especially for the live.
Title: Re: Binary repo for LXQt (Arch compatible) available
Post by: Mr Green on 21. May 2014, 11:44:57
I am running lxqt under a VM, autologin works although autostarting does seem not to work all the time. Loading cmst (connman gui and tray icon) to see it that works. Want to get rid of network manager.
Title: Re: Binary repo for LXQt (Arch compatible) available
Post by: Esclapion on 21. May 2014, 11:52:37
Hmmm, I forgot conman in my list, thanks. I tried slim/lxdm/sddm, and problems in case of autologin. Until now, sddm was the best.

I didn't try kdm because it brings a lot of KDE with it : 484 Mo of kdebase-workspace, lol.   ;D
Title: Re: Binary repo for LXQt (Arch compatible) available
Post by: Mr Green on 21. May 2014, 11:55:17
cmst works only it does not like system tray, so not sure how compatible it will be. I going to run it 'cmst -m', wired seems ok. Wallpaper is not being set via sddm (even with login) but no big deal.

i think pcmanfm qt is using libfm instead of libfm-git

menu-cache is used a dependency instead of menu-cache -git

i was able to uninstall menu-cache and install  menu-cache -git but it was not possible in libfm
Title: Re: Binary repo for LXQt (Arch compatible) available
Post by: Esclapion on 23. May 2014, 18:45:00
pcmanfm-qt-git uses libfm, yes. I don't know why.

menucache-git replace menucache, that it provides.

More info HERE (http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Build_LXDE-Qt_From_Source#pcmanfm-qt).

qterminal is not a part of official LXQt. It's a separate development.

For the moment, it's pcmanfm-qt, full qt5. The desktop is managed by it, it's not independent.

OK, we'll just stick with pcmanfm-qt, it works very well.

I'm looking for something slick like Dolphin, but don't want to pay the KDE tax to use it!   :P

One last issue with "qupzilla-qt5-git", not able to play YouTube videos.

Note: no gtk2/gtk3

   /usr/lib/qupzilla/libflashplayer.so

   [ X ] Allow Flash plugin

   Installed "kdeutils-kwalletmanager", works fine with Octopi (KDE su, add/remove).

EDIT:  After installing "gst-plugins-bad" there is Sound but no Video.

Now, lxqt includes otter-browser, no more qupzilla.

Fix - No sound/video in Qupzilla:

gst-libav                       # required for YouTube video

gst-plugins-bad         # required for YouTube sound
gst-plugins-base
gst-plugins-base-libs
gst-plugins-good

Flashplayer from Adobe

    /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

    Preferences -> Privacy -> Cookies Manager -> Settings -> Filter 3rd Party cookies to "Always".  *

* - this parameter is misleading it will be changed to "Allow 3rd Party Cookies" in the next version.

And its a monster to compile, takes some time, on my i3 ~45 minutes.  :o

These times can be shortened by providing bin files or Build PKGS.   ^-^

note:  gtk2 / gtk3 has never been a problem, this is the current price we pay for 'Qt only systems'.

I recompiled Icecat, but it needs a big tmp file.

In all cases, I'm a chromium user.  ;)
