Title: What do YOU have running under WINE?
Post by: nicodemus144 on 30. December 2013, 18:09:42
of course, native Linux games are the best case scenario.  but if you're like me, there's a certain unique pleasure that comes from getting a Win game running well on Linux. ;)

so i'm curious, what games do you have running in WINE?  please post a screenshot that clearly shows it running in Manjaro, tell us the name of the game and what version of WINE you're running. :D

here's what i got running last night. :)

PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX+ (via Steam)
Crossover 13.0.1

I don't have Wine installed either. I did experiment with it when I first moved to Linux for some music programs but I don't use it now and don't have it installed.

cool, thunder!  how about some screenshots?  and what version of WINE are you using?

Hardy, Spectro, thanks for sharing but this is a thread for people to share what they have installed with WINE, not for people to let everyone know that they don't use WINE. ;)

Nothing nowadays. Used to play WoW, Wolfenstein (2009), and Skyrim.

Just recently I started a monthly donation of $5 because I believe it it's usefulness, especially with the direct 3d stream patches :).

I use Codeweavers (main Wine devs are there) Crossover (fancy Wine) to run the following:

Skyrim - works OK, not perfectly.
Fable (lost chapters) - works OK.
Oblivion - works near perfectly.
LotRo - works OK, not perfectly.
Steam - seems to work OK, though I'm not using the Windows Steam for anything at the moment.

For me its a Calendar called Taskplus. I've been using Taskplus since windows 98 2nd Edition. I can't live without it. There is nothing equal to it in Linux. I start up Taskplus automatically on boot thru KDE startup. I set up my weekly podcasts and Tv shows using Alarm. Have the holidays set as well. It uses lights and Sound to get your attention. Example every 2nd week of the Month on a thursday i need to do something ;you fill in the Blank say Fishing and it does it. Hourly or half hour chimes or not at all. Also has a todo List area as well.

Would  Love some programmers  to make a copy-cat version for Linux, with the ability to sync to Yahoo or Google Calendar.

you can download a Trial version here ---->   http://www.contactplus.com/Task-Plus-Calendar-Software.html

Give it a Spin  Peace and Love from New York-Happy New year to All  :)

Torchlight, Mount & Blade: Warband, Multimedia Fusion 2, RIFT

Tried Rome II Total War, works decently but not well enough but I'm a bit anal these days about performance, I'd rather just use Windows over wine limitations. It's getting ported soon anyway, so I can wait.

I do not have a problem with them, but the CPU is working hard, that is true, I think this is normal while using WINE.

BTW, this is WINE on Arch, my wife's laptop with WINE is running Xubuntu, same 'problem'

I've got a lot of old Window's games so quite a few.

Right now the original Mount & Blade w/The Last Days(of the Third Age) mod.  For me it runs better under WINE than 64-bit Win7 as I never could solve the 'vertex buffer' error.  Also have Prince of Qin and Zeus+Poseidon installed.

I've also had good luck with Jagged Alliance 2, another one that works better under WINE.  Lot of sound related crashes with XP and I couldn't get anywhere with Win7 64-bit.  Also Patrician 3(Patrician II Gold), Victoria w/Revolutions expansion, Planescape Torment w/mods, Children of the Nile, Fallout, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI, both Silent Storms, Knights of Honor and whatever else I'm forgetting.

I haven't tried these with the latest versions of WINE but in the past the original Combat Mission and Slitherines early games, Chariots of War and Gates of Troy, simply don't work.

I have no interest in games and never had success getting two multimedia tools I use to run on Wine. But I'm a lot better at Linux than I was two years ago and I assume Wine is better, too. So I'm inspired to try again. Are there any good fundamental tutorials out there? Years ago I found Wine documentation to be nonexistent.

There's the official wiki:  http://wiki.winehq.org/  For specific programs you can try the AppDB test results and comments. But a lot of it is years out of date.  http://appdb.winehq.org/  From the terminal you can look at the included manual with man wine.

Some programs work, some can be made to work and some simply don't.  The troublesome ones sometimes it just comes down to trial and error.  Launch from a terminal and try to figure out what's causing the errors and then try changing various settings in winecfg and winetricks.  For example if a program is giving you a lot of foo.dll errors.  First see if that dll is already in the program directory or download and install it via winetricks.  Then go to winecfg > Libraries and set foo.dll to (native, builtin) so it uses the Windows dll.

And if all else fails there's Plan B. VirtualBox.

Back on topic.  Apeiron games are working with DX9 installed via winetricks.  Although I'm remembering now why it didn't bother too much when they didn't work:)  Tropico Reloaded(1+2) from GOG, no adjustments needed.

King of Dragon Pass installed and running with an iso(I made ages ago with Nero) mounted via Gmount-iso.  Anyone figured out how to get it out of it's window-thingy?  I'd really like to have larger.

I found Wine easy to install on ManjaroBox v. 8.9 64 bit edition, but no Wine or Windows category is created in the menu. The two windows programs I use are EccoPro (A PIM) and Solid Converter PDF (which converts pdf files to other, editable formats).  Neither are games.  To run either I must right-click on the .exe file from a file manager and chose open with Wine.

Can a launcher be created for doing that more easily?

Thanks in advance.

Umm not even sure what to begin with so:
Rpgs :Neverwinter 1&2 ,Icewind Dale 1&2 ,Baldurs gate 1&2, Temple of elemental evil, Witcher ,Risen,Deus ex, Morrowind(good luck mapping the keyboard shortcuts on this bastard), Gothic 1&2, Fallout Tactics ,Etherlords 1&2 , Majesty 1&2, Disciples 1&2, Silent Storm
Strategy :Praetorians,Battle realms, AOE 2
Things that must be said about my games and me :
1)just about all of them are purchased from gog(i find chasing buggy no-cd patches and fiddling with serial keys  for a game u own quite insulting) and as such i'm spared a lot of grief associated with patch hunting and game protection issues
2)Excepting the rly beefier games all of them run excellent on the nouveau driver using some extra wine settings: glsl enabled for the newer generation games ; opengl renderer for most; pbufer as offscreen render mode in most cases and readdraw for the render target mode lock if the game doesn't crash... Those of u that haven't tried using these settings should rly give them a try they make an amazing difference(from barely playable to smooth max graphics settings in most cases)
3)Do not assume that a game that refuses to run/run poorly on the nvidia will run the same on the nouveau driver, a few games i encountered refuse to run with one driver but work flawless on the other...
4)Use the debug mode to fast track to what it is that makes yr game not work/crash and most of the time u will solve the issue yourself in like 5 minutes...
5)Usually recommended is using the latest wine version but some games sadly only work for wine x.y so check out winedb to see wich version works if yr current version doesn't do the trick...

Now i can play while using firefox and skype! On windows i can't do that because crashy nvidia drivers make windows crash and crash and crash and crash...  ::)

Kindle, So I have a copy of my books.
Total Commander,
Irfanview,
Imagine
Notepad++
Freeciv (syncs data with my other laptops, so it does not matter where I play.)
MS_Access (Nothing opensource comes close to it., Sorry Kexi and Base, but it is true.)

I have seen 1 Video of someone running Photshop CS 6 running on Manjaro with Wine. Has anybody here got that running? Any advice/tips? Or even Photoshop CC?

Lock-in to Windows was bad a short time ago: But now with Steam on  linux, Kingsoft being available + MS-Acces on Wine I only see Photoshop as a serious lock-in threat. Untill someone gets Photoshop running reliably / production use/ professional photographer grade installable.

Computng is getting more and more fun this way. :-)

Hi guys.  I finally got Diablo III running under POL so have done away with windoze all together now.  I also am running virtual dj 8 which works really well and the new version 8 is much more intuitive than the previous I was using (ver 5 I think) and mixes come easier, actually feel like I have cheats enabled in VDJ8 lol.

I plugged in an old controller I have had for around 15 years and it just worked! I love Manjaro

Cheers,
Darin.

EDIT:

Here is a screenie of some of the applications I am using under wine (POL) this does not include the game.

App list:
Photoshop 7 (cause I prefer version 7)
Xara3D (for creating 3d text)
CryptEdit (free text editor with encryption)

More to come :)

Yes, GW1 (Guild Wars) was definitely playable on wine with my nvidia card, and a few tweaks, but that was a couple years ago now for me.  http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_on_Wine

I've never bothered with GW2 under wine, since I don't use wine anymore, (except the drinking kind) ;), but it also looks to be very doable:

Certainly I've searched before and can't find anything satisfying, that's why I pick a working windows app. soundstretch only works on wav, I mostly work with mp3 as they're the most common format when you search for an audio file on the net. I know ffmpeg can easily convert one format to another, but it's a waste of time if I have to do it everytime I want to see the bpm of an audio file.

WINEHQ's app database has Guild Wars listed with a platinum rating and GW2 with a silver rating.
I've played GW2 on my desktop with wine, with little trouble. :)

I'm one of the sad people that have to run the Blizzard stuff in Wine. Battle.net client, Hearthstone, Diablo 3, Heroes Of The Storm and WoW PTR is currently what I use Wine for.

Good day Sir,

Is the game linked to your Steam library? Or do you have it on DVD? Half-Life 2 has been natively available on Steam for several months now.

Regards,
Amarildo

I don't have WINE nor does I support it, for a couple of reasons:

 - I only support developers who support Linux;
 - It's a "poor" piece of software that is bound to die eventually. DX9 support isn't complete, DX10 is worse, DX11 and 12 are laughable at least. Hopefully SteamOS will kill WINE, starting by November this year :)

I have nothing under Wine... (in all honesty I do drink my share) but the software has never worked well for me.  I use VirtualBox running Win with my Win apps. instead.

Currently, I have Quake III Arena, Spore, and Unreal Tournament 2004 running under WINE 1.7.43-1, Dragon Age: Origins and Ultima VIII installed under the Origin client in WINE 1.7.44-staging, Steam in WINE 1.7.33 (Going to be installing Skyrim and Fallout 3 with this later), and Mozilla Firefox in WINE 1.7.22 (In order to watch movies through VuDu on Linux). All of these are being managed by PlayOnLinux, simply for the ease of use and management.

Later, I'm planning on getting Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Neverwinter, and possibly World of Warcraft installed on here. The last simply as an effort to meet the "final requirement" a family member has before they switch completely.

Screenshots to be found here: http://postimg.org/gallery/3h0f1wpb8/

Update: I have Battle.net running fairly well using WINE 1.7.44-staging. Screenshot: http://postimg.org/image/3l5evdu0j/
A few minutes later, and I'm playing WoW (while my game data streams in the background.)
Here's a screenshot (Another is player highlighted, since last time I tried this I couldn't see player models): http://postimg.org/image/tewu270hf/

I installed Call of Duty 2, without problems, I just had to change the render settings to Directx 7 and works flawlessly. I aslo made Counter-Strike 1.6 work without any tweaks. GTA Vice City is working, but it gets incredibly laggy when particles show up, so is really annoying, but I guess it is due to my Intel HD integrated graphics.

I might edit and put screen captures later, although is no secret that this old games run well with Wine.  8)

World of Warcraft though battle.net client = works fine
Diablo 3 through battle.net client = works fine
Hearthstone through battle.net client = works flawlessly
Heroes Of The Storm through battle.net = works fine

Trackmania United- works almost flawlessly
Wildstar- Patcher works fine. Haven't gotten around to actually launching it!
RIFT- Works fantastically
World of Warcraft- Works well. Shitty game though, imo.
Elder Scrolls Online- Works well as long as you don't use optirun.
Eve Online- Works almost perfectly!

Handy, you do know that Spider solitaire is available within Aisleriot which has quite a lot of solitaire type games?

Also, can you teach me how to play Spider solitaire?  I ram it once but didn't have a clue how to play it.

I haven't used Wine for a very long time, it has been a large PITA for me in the past.
I appreciate the effort though, and for some people Wine works great.

My favourite games run natively on Linux via Steam:
- Europa Universalis
- Football Manager
- CS:GO
- Wargame franchise
- many more...

Some other games only work correctly on Windows that is installed on a separate HD.
- Assetto Corsa
- Project Cars
- GTA V
- Pro Evo Soccer
Although these games could work with Wine, it's not worth the hassle, even more so if you have to set up a steering wheel and force feedback...

Very old games that don't need 3D acceleration work best in a virtual machine, in my case it's Windows XP in VirtualBox. I only have Jagged Alliance 2 installed though.

However, I have decided to only buy games that either have a fully working native Linux client at release, or games where the devs promise a Linux version after the Windows release (Grim Dawn comes to mind, or Ashes of the Singularity).

May I ask which Version of Photoshop you are running with wine, and does it perform well? I am asking because Photoshop and some other Adobe Products are the only reason why I still have a Windows in a Virtual Box. I would like to get rid of it somehow hehe..but some clients ask for PSD files all the time..  ::)

Aside that I run "Legend of Grimrok II (GOG Version)" on wine, runs flawless.
I also tried "Guild Wars II" but the frame rate is pretty low and I can only play it in Window Mode.

Fortunately all my other fave games have a native Linux Port already like Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2, Divinity Original Sin...aside that if its not running native I am not buying it anymore.

Sure, it's Photoshop CS6 Extended [or to be more exactly: 13.0 (13.0 20120315.r.428 2012/03/15:21:00:00) x32]. I haven't had any major problems with it yet, just a few minor graphical glitches here and there (almost not worth mentioning)... I used this version on my older machine running Linux Mint 17.1 without any problems, and now it's even better on my faster newer machine with Manjaro :)

I absolutely love Wine for gaming. It's gotten so easy!

EVE Online
F.E.A.R. (play through again after many years)
Men of War
Stalker (I'll finish this one day)

Some games I own but haven't tried with Wine yet:
Starcraft 2
Skyrim
Witcher 2
Just about every Warhammer
