Title: All mirrors fail for a single package
Post by: Daktyl198 on 23. October 2013, 02:37:07
I tried installing the freeciv package (just learned of it :D) and the deps installed fine but of mirrors I have on my list (US only), 1 gives a 403 forbidden and the rest give 404 not found. Yet pacman obviously knows it exists, and what its deps are...

Any idea why this is happening?

You could try removing the US only limitation, running a pacman-mirrors -g command followed by pacman -Syy & then give it another shot. After you get what you want, have a look at the fastest mirrors in the list & make a Custom mirrorlist for yourself. I have 10 mirrors in my Custom list & it works great for me. I run the two commands highlighted above every day (via the allservers.sh script) when I update, & it doesn't take very long at all to test those 10 mirrors & rank them fastest to slowest for that time of the day).

There is a wiki page on doing the Custom thing, found here:

http://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Create_your_own_Custom_Mirrorlist (http://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Create_your_own_Custom_Mirrorlist)

Doing the above with your mirrors may not solve your problem, though the Custom list may certainly be of use to you. :)

I solved it another way and just forgot to mark the topic.

Technically, I didn't solve it, but I did get it installed: I switched to the unstable repos and installed the package without a hitch. (the version in Testing was outdated anyway)

The thing is that I set the country in my pacman-mirrors.conf file haha.

The only issue I'm facing now is that after switching back to the testing branch (it's already set in my pacman-mirrors.conf, but I used pacman-mirrors -b testing -g anyway) I'm still presented with a giant list of updates when using pacman -Syyu... I'm not sure if they are actually updates to testing or if I'm accidentally on the unstable branch still >.<

Read the link I posted previously, it tells you how to set up your mirrors.
