Title: isousb : a graphical tool to copy a Manjaro ISO on an USB key
Post by: Esclapion on 22. April 2013, 00:09:26
Hi,

I wrote a multi-lingual 100% graphical tool to replace ImageWriter.

It is designed to be as robust as possible, and can be integrated Manjaro menu.

For now, it is only in English (mine, bad) and in French, but if it is interesting, I'll easy add other languages.

It starts from the menu :

(http://uppix.net/0/7/9/ec290d9a005ada5d009c43db1fb9d.png)

You can download it from HERE (https://drive.google.com/?tab=wo&authuser=0#folders/0B1md6UqicnuHZkE2U09TNU1qOVU).

To install :

Code: [Select]
yaourt -S isousb
To integrate the menu (XFCE), create a file isousb.desktop in /usr/share/applications containing :

Code: [Select]
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Isousb
Comment=Copy an ISO to an USB key
Comment[fr]=Copie d'une Iso sur une clé USB
Exec=gksu isousb
Icon=gnome-dev-removable-usb
Type=Application
Categories=System

EDIT: set the right download link

can it write over and over again?

Yes, but only one ISO on a key.

(edit)

I am not sure of the question.

In all case, it's a simple tool under development, so I can change something, if interesting.

It's useful, can you add it on transifex so we can translate?

Post by: Esclapion on 22. April 2013, 00:28:50
I dont use transifex, because I think its easier to have all in one file (for installation, and so on).

But I have an array of value that you cant easy translate in your langage, ant that I will easy integrate.

For example, the french array :

Code: [Select]
  fr)
M=(
[0]="Sélectionnez l'ISO à copier"       # Select the ISO to be copied
[1]="Quitter isousb"                    # Exit isousb
[2]="N°"                                # Nr
[3]="Nom"                               # Name
[4]="Taille en Go"                      # Size in Go
[5]="Sélectionnez votre clé USB"        # Select your USB drive
[6]="Attention si taille trop grande"   # Beware if size is too large
[7]="ATTENTION ! ! !"                   # WARNING ! ! !
[8]="Ça pourrait être un disque dur externe.\nContinuer ?" # It could be an external hard drive.\nContinue ?
[9]="Problème dans l'outil. Contactez l'auteur" # Problem in the tool, contact the author.
[10]="Pourcentage fait"                 # Percentage done
[11]="Copie de"                         # Copy of
[12]="Vous pouvez retirer la clé si vous le souhaitez" # You can remove the key if you want.
[13]="Fin de la copie"                  # End of copy
);;

In the right side, there is the english message to translate. You can put your translation on the left, and I will add it to the tool.

Yes, I think.

It only use zenity (preinstalled in Manjaro, but may be not in another one). I was trying to do as simple as possible to install.

Normally, there is nothing to do, only copy the file in /usr/local/bin and make it executable.

Thanks.

It was the French that had to be replaced, not the English.  ;D

But dont mind, it will go. It's late here,  I put it tomorrow in the tool.  ;)

Hi angel,

Thank you. But for now, this is just a very little handy tool,  nothing really official.

(edit)

I need a translation for :

Code: [Select]
Comment[fr]=Copie d'une Iso sur une clé USB

I did two years of ancient Greek, but 50 years ago.  ;)
Title: Re: isousb : a graphical tool to copy a Manjaro ISO on an USB key
Post by: angel on 22. April 2013, 14:13:33
Code: [Select]
Comment[fr]=Copie d'une Iso sur une clé USBI can understand almost nothing in french ( especially spoken french ) but I think you mean:
Code: [Select]
Comment[el]=Copy each ISO on a separate USB drivewhich in Greek would be:
Code: [Select]
Comment[el]=Αντιγράψτε κάθε ISO σε ένα ξεχωριστό USB δίσκο
I did two years of ancient Greek, but 50 years ago.  ;)
Ancient greek was the nightmare of my childhood, If it weren't for Mathematics and Programming I would still be in high school

 :)

I put:

Quote
Copy an ISO to an USB key

and not:

Quote
Copy EACH ISO on a separate USB drive

but it is not important. I put the new versions with the Greek, Portuguese and Turkish on my Google Drive.

For isousb, HERE (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1md6UqicnuHajVuNzJ5Z3QwUkU/edit?usp=sharing).
For isousb.desktop, HERE (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1md6UqicnuHdjFXRGo3WmpRbDA/edit?usp=sharing).

Please tell me if you have access (I have not used Google Drive).

I'll ask for translations on the other forum, good idea.  :)

I can only start the isosusb.sh from a folder. The isousb.desktop is moved to /usr/share/applications and i find the Icon under System. Klick on it, nothing happens.

The Program destroy the Partitonstable on the USB Stick.

In all case, if you copy an hybrid ISO to an USB key, you destroy the partition table, regardless of the software used.

Hi,

Thank you both  ;), but my system is not good (I'm not used to uploads).  :(

I would have put a folder containing the two files at the disposal of users, and I can change the content of this folder.

Google Drive, it does not seem possible. I'll try to do with e-nautia.

The links in the first post are not good, but I will not bother Parmaster every time.

Thinking...  ::)

OK. The link to the folder containing the two should be THIS (https://drive.google.com/?tab=wo&authuser=0#folders/0B1md6UqicnuHZkE2U09TNU1qOVU).

If you could replace the link in my first message, then it should work.

Do you need hybrid iso's for this tool? I have tried different linux iso but some of them not work - kernel panic during boot. As I see the script using the dd command to write on usb stick. Some distros working other like suse results in kernel panic or grub cannot find the root directory. I've checked the Stick but no errors found. The same problem I have if I write iso's from windows with imagewriter or rufus. Some work other not. Any Idea what exactly the problem is because I've got no errors.

I did not know you must have a Google account for it.  ???

Do you have access here (http://e-nautia.com/esclapion91/disk?f=1248660)? If so, isous must be renamed isousb apfter download.

Yes, it's made for hybrid ISO. As those of Manjaro, Mint, Suse and (I think) Debian. A lot others also. Not for old Windows Isos.

This tool works also on Wheezy and the distros based upon.

It's a raw copy, without any change in the ISO, and where the USB Key is handled as a raw device.

I first removed the /usr/bin/isousb & the /usr/share/applications/isousb.desktop files, then installed isousb from the AUR & it worked perfectly. :)

Now my daily running of allservers.sh will automatically catch any updates that come along for isousb in the future.

My thanks to the creators of both isousb & the PKGBUILD.  8)

Something than I dont like at all about imagewriter is than when I finish using it, I must go to the terminal to make it work again, I prefer the unetbootin way, where when I finish using it, I just format it and its working again.
How does works this new tool in that aspect?

It seems that   ISOUSB has the ORPHAN status in AUR. Don't you maintain it anymore?

Is Isousb still working for you guys in unstable?
I have been using it regularly until yesterday I switched this install to unstable.
Its behaving normally until I am supposed to select the target device
Then I get this empty window ;)
Clicking Cancel or OK doesn't change anything and even xkill makes the window just disappear and reappear.
I have to do sudo pkill isousb plus again xkill to get rid of it  :o
Here's the terminal output:

I do now a try from the Menu, and it works.

isousb must be launched with root rights, OK ?

Thank you Esclapion!
Yes I can only launch it with gksu, that's clear.
Meanwhile it is working again. I think it was a problem with my gtk-theme and it could not be displayed properly.
Seems to be fixed now, anyway :)
