Title: [Update] 2016-05-08 - Kernels, Pamac 4.0, Calamares, OpenSSL, Cinnamon, Lumina
Post by: philm on 08. May 2016, 16:43:48
We are happy to announce our eigthteenth update of Manjaro 15.12 (Capella)!

With this we updated most of our kernels, openrc stack, openssl, Calamares, Pamac, Lumina-Desktop, Cinnamon and Steam. We also have now an updated toolchain based on gcc6, libre-office 5.0.6 and regular rebuilds due pacman-hooks.

Archlinux upstream fixes are now from: Sun May 8 12:31:31 CEST 2016.

It is always good to check for updated packages, even we don't notify you about them. As usual people using our testing branch will help us to get snaps over to our stable branch almost smoothly. For notifications on daily bases please take a look at our mailing list (https://lists.manjaro.org/pipermail/manjaro-packages/).

Kind regards,
Philip Müller and the Manjaro Development Team

Troubleshoots

GTK3

With this we updated Gnome and GTK to 3.20. This will break most of the themes, which will be fixed if and when their developers decide to update them. Some GTK 3.20-compliant themes are ready now - see further down this post.

The new default Manjaro GTK theme, which is GTK 3.20 compatible, is Vertex-Maia

You can install it with:
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -Sy vertex-maia-themes vertex-maia-icon-theme xcursor-maia
ufw

If you have issues with ufw not working anymore, you have to copy your custom rules to a different folder. Do it like this:

Code: [Select]
sudo cp -v /usr/lib/ufw/user.rules.pacsave /etc/ufw/user.rules
sudo cp -v /usr/lib/ufw/user6.rules.pacsave /etc/ufw/user6.rules

steam

Steam might not work due incompatiblity of libgpg. You my try followed command to "fix" it:

Code: [Select]
find ~/.steam/root/ -name "libgpg-error.so*" -print -delete
For further details read also this (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33859.msg277050#msg277050).

Arc-Dark theme had a little hiccup after this update. Xfce panel Window Buttons text changed to black, making it impossible to read them. Got around this by uninstalling arc-themes package from official repos and instead installing gtk-theme-arc from AUR as a replacement. It was only the Arc-Dark theme that was affected, Arc and Arc-Darker did not have the issue.

AUR: can't update  lxqt-admin (ver 0.10.0-2)  for its GPG key error

Do we need that AUR based package for lxqt spin? Or can I just del it for good?
I'd rather have 0 number of AUR packages in my distro. (ok, except oracle's java)

Another very smooth (if but again VERY large) update.
Large as in almost, but not quite 900MB. These last several updates have all pretty much been kind of "huge".
But, hey cannot truly complain as they have all been smooth as silk.

Major kudos to the devs.
Extraordinary work.

No issues this time.

Everything is running smooth and Pamac's (new) interface seems to have fixed its prior GTK issues in the Greenbird theme.

Everything seems just a bit faster, snappier and smoother in Xfce after this update.

Thank you.

Problem between NetworkManager and dhclient with this update.

Network prob, DNS response problem, DHCP not working...

You don't have to downgrade dhclient...

Edit the NetworkManager.conf and change the dhcp value: remove "internal" and put "dhclient". Now reboot the problem is SOLVED :)

PS: Same problem and same solution in pure Arch

But, hey cannot truly complain as they have all been smooth as silk.

They were 1.3GB for me, however I have nearly 2000 packages installed, because I use my Manjaro system as a workstation.

I don't mind the large updates, because I have fast internet and during this update cycle at least one issue got fixed for me and Xfce also seems to be running even faster, snappier and smoother now. So I'm happy with this update cycle.

I'm using the Greenbird theme, but one thing I noticed when quickly switching to Vertex Maia (as a test), is that LibreOffice fresh still has dark menus under Vertex Maia. So that doesn't seem fixed yet, however Vertex wasn't updated during this update cycle, so it makes sense that that issue is still there.

However it doesn't bother me, because I'm back on Greenbird, which seems to be running well enough with the new GTK version.

smooth update. rebooted then got asked to update FireFox-gtk2 which failed to build. my guess would be that theres a compatibility issue with the newly updated gtk chain tools and removing firefox-gtk2 and installing the standard alone firefox should solve this error.

and so i removed firefox-gtk2 then installed "Firefox" from repository, rebooted and it seems to work fine .

Lockscreen seems to be broken on KDE.

When the screen is locked, the following message shows up:

Quote
The screen locker is broken and unlocking is not possible anymore. In order to unlock switch to a virtual terminal (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F2), log in and execute the command:

loginctl unlock-sessions

Afterwards switch back to the running session (Ctrl+Alt+F1).

The instructions displayed on the screen do work, though.

smooth update. rebooted then got asked to update FireFox-gtk2 which failed to build. my guess would be that theres a compatibility issue with the newly updated gtk chain tools and removing firefox-gtk2 and installing the standard alone firefox should solve this error.

and so i removed firefox-gtk2 then installed "Firefox" from repository, rebooted and it seems to work fine .

Same for me but with firefox, scroll is missing...
I tried firefox-kde and it's the same...

What can i do?

Thanks.

I am still investigating, but it appears that the stalonetray problem may be related to E. As the attached pic shows, stalone runs, but I have loaded it manually along with Pidgin, clipit annd Tomboy Notes.

Three things strange with pamac (see pic): 1) the update looks like gnome, i.e., it does not have E's frame; 2) No package details (noted above); 3) The menu drops down OK, but I cannot access the settings.

E still cannot find Manjaro Settings.

Hi,

Installed Manjaro 16.06 pre 3 KDE lately. This was the first update since. As it was the first update I watched the update carefully. Somewhere halfway the system suddenly froze up. Waited a while and then tried to restart the system. It didn't. Put my latest backup back on the harddrive and tried again. This time everything went smooth.

Hi there!.. you and i are using different kernels and desktop environments. i tested firefox and i can see the scrolling sidebar and use it fine. i think perhaps the issue could be theme related. my FF version is 46.0.1 that i installed from "extra" repository and i use Vertex-Maia-Dark theme.

firefox-gtk2 has been renamed firefox, that's why the update wants to remove my custom built firefox-gtk2 because it's in the PKGBUILD's "conflicts" section.
Renaming custom firefox-gtk2 to firefox should do the trick.

You'll only need to edit the PKGBUILD if you're using a custom compiled firefox build.
Just rename it to firefox (in the pkgbuild, not the package file) and adjust the "conflicts" section so that it includes firefox-gtk2. Then recompile.

No intervention required if you're just using firefox from the official repos.

there sometihng weir with NetworkMananger
with 16.06pre2 and update week before no trouble ( i use adwaita-theme )

IPv6 is length prefix 64 and IPv4 faor failback is ok by dhcpd ( systemd --> avahi-deamon --> Networkmanager )

after the update
ipv6 length prefix is 128 bits , IPv4 time out ( Ip is given par fiber box for Ipv6/v4 ) , timeout appears in systemd ...

only mail , ping on other country with low value ( www.google.com)  and pacman works and no IP for Internet
status connexion show only IPv6 , networkmonitoring says no ip

and before upgrade in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
dhcp:dhclient ( seems to be good , not internal )

i had to re install 16.06pre2 for / and recover internet
and after  , for future update ?

Ok community,

let me explain some things regarding pamac, manjaro-settings and other things which popped up with the current feedback here:

pamac

We released our fourth stable version of Pamac. Guillaume was working for some time on a new design for pamac. It has a new design:
Main view

New dependencies view

New settings view

Why we use now CSD style and headerbar? Well, the main developer uses Gnome as his main desktop and XFCE will change to GTK3 anyway in the end. Also Antergos uses Pamac as their main package manager and we share our efforts. Any feedback can be found here (https://github.com/manjaro/pamac/issues/113).

Manjaro Settings-Manager (MSM)

We worked hard to integrate MSM seamlessly into our KDE edition. Now we have it integrated into the KDE settings application as KCM modules. Therefore we rebuilt the base of MSM to fit KDE needs. To have still support for our other editions we created a legacy mode and transformed it into the same look we had with MSM 0.4.x series. Since that finalized we dropped 0.4.x series for good. The current package is the second 5.0-RC2 to get final issues and feedback before the stable release of MSM 5.0. Why we have now more KDE dependencies? Well, to integrate it better to KDE we need them. Also we kept them to a minimum. We have now two notifiers which can be used, like we did with Octopi. Some might not like it. However we can still re-add MSM legacy if needed until it is totally broken. Why KDE based? The maindeveloper uses that as his main desktop.

Why the heck looks my GTK based desktop broken?

We have a new GTK3 framework which breaks, as usual all themes not compatible with it. Why are 70% of our desktop editions broken? Cos simple put, we were not able to make our default Menda theme compatible. The new unified theme is now called Maia. Simply install it as already discussed in our previews update announcements. The new default Manjaro GTK theme, which is GTK 3.20 compatible, is Vertex-Maia

You can install it with:
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -Sy vertex-maia-themes vertex-maia-icon-theme xcursor-maia
Why do we not link to 15.12 ISOs from our download page

Those install medias are really old and we have more and more issues with newcomers using those ISOs to install Manjaro. A new release candidate is expected this weekend to get online. Our current third preview should most likely work. Some fixes are still needed, but if you made installing Manjaro the update procedure will be much easier.

What the heck, some keys are broken or not working

For real. What do you expect from old install medias. At some point the first step is to update the keyrings to get any update. How to do that is explained in detail (https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Pacman_troubleshooting#Errors_about_Keys) in our wiki.

I don't get updates, why is that

We have a great service to check all our mirrors. Seems nobody uses it: http://repo.manjaro.org/ Simply read also our Tips for Pacman (https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Pacman_Tips) and use pacman-mirrors:

Code: [Select]
[phil@manjaro core]$ pacman-mirrors --help
usage: pacman-mirrors [-h] [-g] [-m {rank,random}]
                      [-b {stable,testing,unstable}] [-c COUNTRY] [-d PATH]
                      [-o FILE] [-t SECONDS] [--no-update] [-i] [-v]

optional arguments:
-h, --help            show this help message and exit
  -g, --generate        generate new mirrorlist
  -m, --method {rank,random}
                        generation method
  -b, --branch {stable,testing,unstable}
                        branch name
  -c, --country COUNTRY
comma separated list of countries where mirrors will be used
  -d, --mirror_dir PATH
                        mirrors list path
  -o, --output FILE     output file
  -t, --timeout SECONDS
                        server maximum waiting time
--no-update           don't generate mirrorlist if NoUpdate is set to True in the configuration file
-i, --interactive     interactively generate a custom mirrorlist
-v, --version         print the pacman-mirrors version

The fastest mirror in syncing is netzspielplatz (http://mirror.netzspielplatz.de/manjaro/packages) in Germany. It syncs every five minutes.

I hope this will help a lot of you ...

So it seems that E20.7 is not playing nice with the rest of the children, or more specifically with authentication and stalonetray. The first would suggest a problem with lxpolkit -- which works fine with the updated pamac and MSM in E20.6, so I am not sure what to think.

There is no bug reported on Arch for E20.7, but I will check with e-users listserv. In the meantime I will downgrade to 20.6 until this is resolved or E21 appears (now in beta).

As far as stalonetray is concerned, I confirmed that the update did not activate E's systray (which usually gives a warning anyway). This may be one of the strange cases where .e needs to be wiped out and E20.7 reconfigured -- which would mean that I will definitely wait for E21 to cross that bridge.

Color me red on pamac!  :-[ When no package information appeared I, of course, right clicked, but never thought of the other typical tactic, double clicking. Duh!  :-[  :o

Edit: It's a shame that MSM is tied to desktop-specific dependencies, but is there no chance that pamac could be a little more neutral? Or is it possible to reconfigure pamac at least to enable the E border? Most of the changes in pamac are fine, but the use of the headerbar does not save that much and the loss of E border means that some E-specific commands for window manipulation are unavailable.

(I see no one has commended on github in over a month so hesitated to comment there.)

This didn't work for me. GTK windows are still butt ugly.

Issue with nvidia-340xx-utils:

Code: [Select]
error: file owned by 'libglvnd' and 'nvidia-340xx-utils': 'usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so'
error: file owned by 'libglvnd' and 'nvidia-340xx-utils': 'usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1'
error: file owned by 'libglvnd' and 'nvidia-340xx-utils': 'usr/lib/nvidia/libGLESv1_CM.so'
error: file owned by 'libglvnd' and 'nvidia-340xx-utils': 'usr/lib/nvidia/libGLESv1_CM.so.1'
error: file owned by 'libglvnd' and 'nvidia-340xx-utils': 'usr/lib/nvidia/libGLESv2.so'
error: file owned by 'libglvnd' and 'nvidia-340xx-utils': 'usr/lib/nvidia/libGLESv2.so.2'

This has the effect of causing a crash loop for LightDM until nvidia-340xx-utils are reinstalled. I really don't know how important libglvnd is or if it's only supposed to be for for nvidia-utils.

You need to activate the new theme too. Otherwise you're still set to the old one.

Since the update, I've been unable to use the shortcut to take a screenshot using gnome-screenshot. I have to open up the interactive GUI for gnome-screenshot, but then gnome-screenshot starts to eat the CPU and then produces a screenshot after a minute.

Code: [Select]

Agree, don't think it's the config. We were already on 1.10 before.

Thanks for the info, I put conky on hold until we have more info.

Hey, I solved this problem by installing conky-lua-nv.  Because there was a conflict, regular conky was uninstalled.  Conky-lua-nv even converted my old conkyrc config properly.  See Oberon's post in Applications & Desktop Environments (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=32166.0) for more info.

Thanks!   :)

Two problems.

1) the WiFI no longer connect automatically and I've to activate manually the connection from the nm app
2) the 8192cu-dkms no longer work. This is a serious problem cause the standard rtl8192cu driver is buggy and unusable.

This are the info about my system:

No other problems and good work, as usual :)

The failure to start applications at startup in E20.7 is a known bug that has been resolved for E20.8. See bug report https://phab.enlightenment.org/T3584 (https://phab.enlightenment.org/T3584).

After update my conky will not displayed on my second monitor.

In the past I started conky with a delay from 5 seconds (conky -p5)  and it works.

I changed from   :

alignment = 'top_right',   to     alignment = 'top_left',

and

gap_x = 10,    to      gap_x = 3070,

This solved my problem and don't need the delay of 5 seconds.

It's  depend which size of Monitor you use, so you have to play  with gap_x =   and gap_y= settings.

Another problem (it's not a really a problem) is the new look of pamac, it's don't fit to xfce but this is my personal taste.

Regards

Mozon

it's well known upstream error in light Vertex themes with libreoffice-fresh in Manjaro ... look at https://github.com/horst3180/vertex-theme/issues/187

Hope that someone find the solution.
