It is recommended to use Adwaita or any theme which is already compatible with the new CSS style of Gnome. Most of the work is now going into Adwaita-Manjaro and Vertex-Manjaro. Vertex will become our default theme for most of our editions.
sudo pacman -S vertex-maia-themes adwaita-manjaro-themes
:)Where can we change to the Adwaita or Vertex themes?
When I got to Settings>Window Manager, then neither Adwaita or Vertex is in the list, so it can't be selected there.
I've been using Manjaro for a year now, so maybe those themes did not get added along with the updates? If not, then how to obtain them?
Code: [Select]sudo pacman -S vertex-maia-themes adwaita-manjaro-themes
:)
Or select them in your preferred package manager.
Please read this (https://github.com/manjaro/release-plan/issues/43) and switch to vertex-maia. Thx.
Hi, if they are on you system you should be able to set them using Settings>Appearance
What about a vertex-maia-dark? Is it in manjaro-team plans? It's already included in the package!! ;D

Hi aranwe!Thunderbird looks good here. Just you might need to restart the application after you change the theme.Perfect.
For Firefox:
You'll have to find out the name of your profile: In your ~/.mozilla/firefox directory there is a folder with a name consisting of some random letters and numbers. I'll call it xyz.default now, you will use your respective name
Then do in the terminalCode: [Select]ln -s /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia/chrome ~/.mozilla/firefox/xyz.default/chrome
Just replace 'xyz' with the real name of your folder.
Then restart Firefox and it should match Vertex-Maia theming :)
Libreoffice looks really weird after GTK 3.20 and vertex. Can't see the menus and icons on the toolbar. Greenbird theme fixes it.

@Finrod: Read at least the first post of this announcement and use a theme which is actually working for GTK 3.20.
Apart from already mentioned Gnome ugliness (and Adwaita doesn't help much), everything went fine. ThanksI made my GNOME look quite good with the Vertex theme, I believe I used Vertex Dark. Looks quite good now.
We are happy to announce our seventeenth update of Manjaro 15.12 (Capella)!
With this we updated Gnome and GTK to 3.20. This will break most of the themes and will be fixed as soon as we had time to port them.
It is recommended to use Adwaita or any theme which is already compatible with the new CSS style of Gnome. Most of the work is now going into Adwaita-Manjaro and Vertex-Maja. Vertex will become our default theme for most of our editions.
...
I hope the Raleigh theme for XFCE is ported soon. Both the Adwaita-Manjaro and Vertex-Maia themes are hard on my eyes. I went with the Raleigh theme because it was no-nonsense visually.
By the way, how when I know when Raleigh is ported? It doesn't show up in the package manager. Will it just come as an update to XFCE?
ufw
If you have issues with ufw not working anymore, you have to copy your custom rules to a different folder. Do it like this:Code: [Select]sudo cp -v /usr/lib/ufw/user.rules.pacsave /etc/ufw/user.rules
sudo cp -v /usr/lib/ufw/user6.rules.pacsave /etc/ufw/user6.rules
Raleigh doesn't "work", it's the opposite in fact, it doesn't work for GTK3 at all - Raleigh is only a GTK2 theme.
It 'works' because when there's no GTK3 theme at all, GTK3 uses it's default theme: Adwaita.
So when you use Raleigh you're getting Raleigh for GTK2 apps and Adwaita for GTK3 apps.
Same will happen if you use and GTK2-only theme.

As a clarification, is Menda being killed off, er, retired, or will it continue to be maintained even though Vertex is the new default?
If we do NOT want to update to GTK3 3.20 until theme authors/maintainers have had a chance to (once again!) change their themes, is it possible just to block updates to the GTK3 package for the time being . . . or are there more packages affected (e.g., gtk3mm) . . . and/or is this too big a can of worms to open? You can just try that for a while and see what happens. I don't expect it to render your system un-bootable, so the day you encounter problems you can just finally upgrade. But personally of your three options I would expect the last one quite soon ... :P ;)

A note regarding Vertex: There is no highlight bar on the menu that appears after right clicking on the pamac icon (for me in a stalone tray) although others work properly.Hm. In all contexts I have tried sofar with different trays that's not the case. Could you provide a screenshot and tell me what tray exactly you are using? Is that in E20?

Just registered to say this. Gtk is a piece of ****. My beloved greybird theme is broken (as my working process) for gtk 3 apps. And only three compatible themes (vertex, adwaita and arc) look ugly and too white imho. Can someone provide a link to the previous gtk package? I cleared cache before update.Search Manjaro Wiki for "downgrade".
I posted a how-to for downgrading GTK3 to restore older themes. It just requires a few older packages. This is a temporary fix until themes are updated for GTK 3.20, or new themes created for it. There are so few right now.Maybe I don't understand what you mean because this is not the issue to me. Older dark themes were also broken.
For the how-to go here: https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33482 (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33482)
Maybe I don't understand what you mean because this is not the issue to me. Older dark themes were also broken.
I just think Manjaro team should manage to fix them, since themes are being redone anyway. Why not give this some attention?? :-(
Please make a Manjaro Dark theme work with Firefox properly! :-\
Yes this GTK theme broking business is nonsense. E.g. all 'working' dark themes make gitg diff view unreadable due to too foreground color being too light. I tried using custom foreground colors but gitg is oblivious to those settings. Even gitg-git does not fix it.
ManjaroFlatDark did not have this problem.
I was aware about all the GTK2,GTK3,QT theming nightmare before but was content to avoid it because things just worked™. https://www.facebook.com/juureravi/?fref=ts&hc_location=ufi
Anyway, since Vertex-Maia and Vertex-Maia-Dark are bundled separately the latter masquerades as a light theme which is a good thing™ because it would not be compatible with GTK2 and QT otherwise. Problem is GTK3 apps like gitg may use that switch to determine which hard-coded colors to use and you end up with unreadable text because the 'light theme variant' is actually dark.
DL;DR add 'gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme=1' to ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini if using a dark-only theme.
P. S. I hate GTK devs.
Okay, since I have a backup image of my system of just before the update, I'm going to do a test.
I'm going to update my system, all 344 packages, except the following packages related to GTK,
because I want to see if I can update my system without issues if I do it like this.
This will allow me to wait for an update cycle that fixes all the issues.
The packages that I will not update are:
gtk-update-icon-cache
gtk3
gtkmm3
gtksourceview3
lib32-gtk3
If I'm missing any packages that should be excluded from being updated, then please let me know.
If I'm missing any packages that should be excluded from being updated, then please let me know.
I just downgraded gtk3 and gtkmm3 to restore the themes broken by the upgrade. Greenbird works okay for me now; you need to reboot after changing your GTK3 package to see the change. You'll also need to downgrade (or not upgrade) vte3 and vte-common to avoid breaking pamac package management applications. I'm running 32-bit. Your lib32 package is probably for running 32-bit applications on 64-bit, so that may need downgrading also.
As I posted earlier in this thread, there's a how-to for downgrading GTK3 here: https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33482 (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33482)

Just noticed that the menu in LibreOffice does not show in the Vertex-Maia theme.
There is no "select none/select all" checkbox, which means I have to uncheck all 344 packages manually and check the ones I would like to update or I would need to use the command line.Sounds like a very good idea! However, I think Guillaume and Dustin, the authors of pamac are not around so much here. The best place to suggest this will be on github (https://github.com/manjaro/pamac) :)
Such a checkbox would be a very useful feature in a scenario like this.
Yes, it's a known issue (https://github.com/horst3180/vertex-theme/issues/187) when using libreoffice-fresh.
Hi
Got through the default theme issues, but seem to now have a problem with default optimus.
(Laptop with optimus, 4.4x kernel, xfce, all latest updates).
Prior to this update, after the initial startup, the nvidia notification LED would turn itself off, and I would be running on the Intel integrated graphics. That's what I'd like to do.
Now, the notification LED is always on, which indicates that the nvidia card is always on and never powered off. It still seems to be accessing the integrated graphics by default, as I can only access nvidia-settings if I run primusrun nvidia-settings -c :8, as I used to prior to the update.Code: [Select]dmesg extract:

After searching around, found this post (http://ubuntuguide.net/turn-off-discrete-nvidia-optimus-graphics-card-ubuntu). Seems like the nvidia driver is not being unloaded. If I follow the modprobe -r nvidia and then the tee command, I can manually turn the discrete card off.
Same happens with 4.1x kernel. Here (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/bumblebee#Default_power_state_of_NVIDIA_card_using_bbswitch) says that bumblebeed should turn the nvidia card off. So seems to be something funky with bbswitch/bumblebeed/driver interaction.
cat /proc/acpi/bbswitch
tee /proc/acpi/bbswitch <<<OFF
seems to work to manually turn the card off, but only after amodprobe -r nvidia

No one? (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33377.msg273687#msg273687)
Since I posted the above, I searched and tried many suggestions from all over, and none worked.
I tried this update with my current kernel, 4.4 and a previous one 4.1 and the same problem as reported in the above linked post.
inxi -F
Sounds like a very good idea! However, I think Guillaume and Dustin, the authors of pamac are not around so much here. The best place to suggest this will be on github (https://github.com/manjaro/pamac) :)
You can make a bootable usb-stick with the Manjaro Live installation on it.
You can use UNetbootin to create such a usb stick in Linux or if you use Windows, then you can use Rufus.
sudo dd if=image.iso of=/dev/<usb-device-id>
NOTE: be very careful with this command or you will nuke your system
Hello Monro, could you please supply the team with more info about your hardware?inxi info is in the attached file below.Code: [Select]inxi -F
If you don't have inxi please install it.
Cheers,
Maybe you are not using the theme correctly?

You have to copy or link the content of the theme's firefox/chrome folder to your profile:Code: [Select]ln -s /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia-Dark/chrome/ .mozilla/firefox/<xyz123>.default/chrome
sudo mkdir -p /usr/lib/firefox/browser/defaults/profile
sudo ln -s /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia-Dark/chrome/ /usr/lib/firefox/browser/defaults/profile/chrome
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpangoft2-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: FcWeightFromOpenType
i have the same issu.
where a add the 3?
i have many lines ??? ??? ??? ???
I have only 2 words to say: f*ck GTK 3.20 >:(
Excluding the GTK 3.20 theming issues, this is a smooth update as usual.
Now I have to work hard to fix my theme to make it fit well with the GTK 3.20, I hope I'll found some guidelines on the web
Actually I would like to learn why this theme change to Vertex-Maia-Dark affected my Bank of America login when I did not intend that.My understanding is that when no chrome folder is present in your browser profile, firefox will try to use the theme's global css. Especially with dark themes this quite often doesn't work out so well with the user content, meaning the actual homepages displayed. For that reason many dark themes supply a specific userContent.css file, which is placed in the mentioned chrome folder next to userChrome.css. The latter in the case of vertex is not so crucial I think, but it does bring some nice extra features corresponding to the global theme.
la ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome
ls /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia-Dark/chrome
$ ls ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome
chrome userChrome.css
and: $ ls /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia-Dark/chrome
images userChrome.css userContent.css
Other themes I try do not have this problem, nor does your browser clearly. Could this be due to some of my about:config edits? Here is the output you asked for:Almost ;) but not quite :) I wrote la, not ls, because I wanted to see the name of your symlink folder and if there are more than one, and also where the link is pointing to...Code: [Select]$ ls ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome
chrome userChrome.css
$ la ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome
lrwxrwxrwx 1 bernhard bernhard 50 29.04.2016 07:25 /home/bernhard/.mozilla/firefox/2e1kii3u.default/chrome -> /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia-Dark/chrome//

I admitted that I am inexperienced... I sent a screenshot of the properties window sorry for the crudeness.Oh, and I already see that there is something wrong with the folder structure of your profile!
Mine:
Code: [Select]

yours:

See the difference?

Almost ;) but not quite :) I wrote la, not ls, because I wanted to see the name of your symlink folder and if there are more than one, and also where the link is pointing to...la is ubuntuism, or at least it is the only distro i have encountered it in.
Mine looks like this for example:Code: [Select]$ la ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome
lrwxrwxrwx 1 bernhard bernhard 50 29.04.2016 07:25 /home/bernhard/.mozilla/firefox/2e1kii3u.default/chrome -> /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia-Dark/chrome//
la is ubuntuism, or at least it is the only distro i have encountered it in.It's a bash alias that used to be included in the standard manjaro .bashrc, but I just realize that it's not even the case anymore. So on newer systems you will have to use explicitly
ls -la
The old alias wasla='ls -la --group-directories-first --time-style=+"%d.%m.%Y %H:%M" --color=auto -F'
Done and done Thanks the B of A login window behaves as expected.Hooray! Happy banking then! $$$$$ ;D
Hello
finally solved my problem with a new installation of XFCE Manjaro, but now I have the problem of updating it gives error. to transfer it keychain gives unexpected error. necessary missing key on your keychain. key "8DB9F8C18DF53602" could not be looked up remotely
Would anyone give me a hand?
I updated the Manjaro and now I have this errorhttps://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Pacman_troubleshooting ;)
unexpected error: failed to sync any database
The Emacs 24 toolbar comes up empty after the GTK update. Has anyone found a solution for that yet?

I personally love the Adwaita-manjaro theme and dislike the Vertex one. However, at first it looked okay, but now it looks like it's conflicting with the original Adwaita and the text for icons on the desktop is suddenly dark grey, instead of white.I'm not sure what you mean with conflicting. ???
I'm not sure what you mean with conflicting. ???
The icon text has its intended color. It's the same highlight color as everywhere else with the maia themes. With the regular Adwaita theme the icon text highlight for me is not white but blue:

The background problem looks more like one of those gsettings things ... Your're using Gnome, aren't you?
Yup, Gnome.
By conflicting I mean that the Adwaita-Manjaro "highlight" colour should be green instead of blue, right? But for some reason the blue "shines" through. You can see it on these images in my post. These screenshots are taken on the same system. As you can see, on the second image, the highlight colour is green and blue at the same time.
https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33377.msg273849#msg273849
Not a major issue of course, I just use the regular Adwaita then, but would prefer the green highlight instead of blue - would make it look more "Manjaro" haha :) And also, the black/grey icon text on desktop makes it difficult to read on darker backgrounds. This "bug" doesn't appear on the regular Adwaita.
Who is responsible for the Adwaita-Manjaro theme development on Gnome? Maybe I should contact that person? Maybe it's my systems issue, but it occurs on 2 of my computers, one of them is a fresh install.
You can type the codes into the "Hex" field on this site to check them:Or, you can install a very useful tiny utility: gcolor2 - I spent many hours with that new friend of mine recently :P ... ;D
http://colorizer.org/
Or you can use the colour chooser window in GIMP, or whatever.
@polibenex: If you look back through the thread, I recall seeing another post about increased temperatures. You can try another kernel to see if that fixes the problem. If not there may be an issue with the nVidia driver or bumblebee.
After update and reboot I got a black screen with blinking cursor instead of login screen. Reinstall non-free nVidia driver did not help, I uninstalled it and nouveau works. Kernel is 4.1.23. Situation was the same with 4.5.2 kernel. I attached my inxi log. Is there any idea how to use non-free driver?
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia': Exec format error

I have just a problem with Spectacle:
I can take a full screenshot and it works.
But if i take a region screenshot, nothing appears and will save a blank image.
I already installed and use Vertex-Maia and Adwaita but makes no difference.

1st post (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33377.msg273687#msg273687)Hi,
following post (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33377.msg274086#msg274086)
This virtual machine is a replica of my laptop, and I don't want to update the latter because others (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=33377.msg273302#msg273302) had this issue on a non-vm as well.
Can anyone from the team at least say if this is going to be solved in the next update?
In case that you do not like Vertex-Maia or you want to try something else, with GTK 3.20 support, there is also the Arc theme.
https://github.com/horst3180/Arc-theme (https://github.com/horst3180/Arc-theme)
available via pacman:Code: [Select]arc-themes
Hi,I also have Arch vm, and X broke there too.
Yup, X seems broken under virtualbox currently (at least on OpenRC).

Most people have reported that it works on bare metal.
