Title: [Update] 2015-12-23 - Kernels, Deepin 2015, Plasma 5, Haskell
Post by: philm on 23. December 2015, 08:12:38
We are happy to announce the stable release of Manjaro 15.12 (Capella)!

After almost three months of development we can present to you now Capella, our latest instance of Manjaro Linux. This release comes with XFCE 4.12, KDE Plasma 5.5, 4.1.0 LTS kernel and all the usual Manjaro and upstream updates. We worked mostly on our tools and the graphical installers.

Noteable changes in our tools:
Package-wise we have following changes:

KDE Apps got updated to 15.12, Virtualbox is now at 5.0.12, mesa is at 11.0.8, wine at 1.8 and the kernel at 4.4-rc6. Bumblebee is now also fixed for OpenRC and small fixes went into our samba-share thunar plugin.

To round-up this update, you find here some additional packages. Some linux3xx kernels got updated, last-minute fixes for Plasma 5, haskell updates, renewed Deepin desktop 2015 and fixes to firefox complete Manjaro 15.12.

Archlinux upstream fixes are now from: Tue Dec 22 12:25:53 CET 2015.

It is always good to check for updated packages, even we don't notify you about them. As usual people using our testing branch will help us to get snaps over to our stable branch almost smoothly. For notifications on daily bases please take a look at our mailing list (https://lists.manjaro.org/pipermail/manjaro-packages/):

Kind regards,
Philip Müller and the Manjaro Development Team

Update looks smooth,

However xfce4-panel not getting loaded at start,
I have to manually run it from terminal

trying to find out how to stick xfce4-panel in session startup
BTW, I can see xfce4-panel in session startup and configured "Restart Style" to Immediately,
I have also manually saved the session with the above setting, but still the panel wont start up

rest all looks smooth as always

Thanks for the Awesome OS

As a side note, are we getting Arc GTK Based manjaro flavoured theme? ARC looks awesome

did the update and restarted, logged in all looked good and fine, then after 20 seconds plasma crashed, I clicked the Ok whatever button, new crash message informs me that kwin crashed, I shrug and reboot one more time just for good measure, now my second monitor is no longer properly configured, resolution is off, it's not primary, so I run the display settings and try to fix it, kde panel won't jump to my primary monitor, instead I get horrible redraw errors, see here: http://h.dropcanvas.com/2ep6l/manjaro_update2.png

Not a biggy, but I'd thought I post it..

Hello there,

noob question, while upgrading the system asked me:

Code: [Select]
Starte vollständige Systemaktualisierung...
:: kdegraphics-ksnapshot durch extra/spectacle ersetzen? [J/n] j
:: kdemultimedia-ffmpegthumbs durch extra/ffmpegthumbs ersetzen? [J/n] j
:: kdepim-kalarm durch extra/kalarm ersetzen? [J/n] j
:: kdepim-kleopatra durch extra/kleopatra ersetzen? [J/n] j
:: signon durch extra/signond ersetzen? [J/n] j
Löse Abhängigkeiten auf...
Suche nach in Konflikt stehenden Paketen...
:: kdebase-lib und kde-templates stehen miteinander in Konflikt. kde-templates entfernen? [j/N]

Meaning that kdebase-lib and kde-templates are in conflict.
Should I replace kdebase-lib with kde-templates?

Thanks

Post by: max99 on 23. December 2015, 09:52:41
Ok, I tried and this is what happens:

Code: [Select]
:: kdebase-lib und kde-templates stehen miteinander in Konflikt. kde-templates entfernen? [j/N] j
:: libkdepim und kdepim-libkdepim stehen miteinander in Konflikt. kdepim-libkdepim entfernen? [j/N] j
:: akonadi und akonadi-qt4 stehen miteinander in Konflikt. akonadi-qt4 entfernen? [j/N] j
:: kdepim-runtime und kdepim4-runtime stehen miteinander in Konflikt. kdepim4-runtime entfernen? [j/N] j
:: libkolab und libkolab4 stehen miteinander in Konflikt. libkolab4 entfernen? [j/N] j

So a lot of conflicts that I answered all with Yes.
So, you mean I can proceed saftely? Or should I break the Upgrade?

Thanks again

looks like you're upgrading from kde4 to plasma 5 ? It's the right thing to do, if it works or breaks is for you to find out and report back to us  :o

           Desktop: KDE Plasma 5.5.1 (Qt 5.5.1)

It seems ark 15.12 doesn't like unrar package, you will need to install the rar package from the aur:

Rather "shocking" welcome after reboot. KDE Wallet had to be reconfigured, Email passwords reentered, Kontact had to be readjusted, ...

... but I am fine for now.

Only while trying to readjust the control bar I messed it up completely, deleted it, and added the standard control bar.

Now I am missing the Manjaro Kickstarter. Anyone could tell me please how to add it, can't find it among the mini programs.

Thanks.

EDIT: Took a leap of faith and upgraded from KDE 4 to Plasma 5, so forget about trouble with Kickstarter. Thanks.

I installed Manjaro on my old netbook yesterday, and I had downloaded the 15.09 XFCE ISO. After I've installed it, 300+ updates were found, and I downloaded them.

Doing inxi -Fxz revealed that I'm already at the latest version. Could someone explain what happened to me? I thought the update was released today.

I had to downgrade xorg-server to 1.17.2 because otherwise keyboard and mouse don't work in X (it doesn't depend on DE). The only difference I noticed is in Xorg.0.log where I see that evdev module is not loaded and I have no idea why...

EDIT: Currently all packages are updated except xorg-server and as you see my keyboard works correctly.

Did my update yesterday for KDE.  It resolved pretty much every last quirky problem I had previously.  No crashes since the update, everything launches quicker, and the system seems more responsive overall,  Shaved 20-30 seconds off my boot time.  Thank you Manjaro Team for all the hard work.

Manjaro is a rolling distribution, they released the 15.12  iso today.
if you update your install you're already up too date. before yesterday you would have seen 15.12rc.

Use the update manager, Pamac or Octopi depending on which edition you installed.
Or you can use this on the command line.
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -Syu
As long as you keep running the updates, you'll always be at the latest release.

Doesn't really matter, all updates to your system will bring you to the current state of what is in the repositories.
You just keep rolling, no need to ever re-install.'

However, you can just look in you /etc/lsb-release file to be sure.

Gnome is currently a community edition with no maintainer. However you can download manjaro-tools-iso and the current profiles from our master branch and give it a try yourself by building a ISO:

Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S manjaro-tools-iso
mkdir ~/dev
cd ~/dev
git clone https://github.com/manjaro/manjaro-tools-iso-profiles.git
sudo buildiso -p gnome -qv
sudo buildiso -p gnome

It may or may not give you a proper result. You may want to edit /etc/manjaro-tools/manjaro-tools.conf and copy it over to ~/.config/manjaro-tools/. Also take a look at the profile.conf of the gnome profile.

After a few trials and errors I was able to determine that I need xf86-input-libinput package... I don't recall to have it installed in the past. Maybe it should be added as dependency package for the most recent version of xorg-server?

I have a small bug in kde after the update. I have pinned shortcuts/launchers of my apps into the taskbar, much like the dock in osx. Until yesterday when i have launched a program and minimized it, its icon have shown with a grey background and faded. Today its icon when is minimized, it shows without these faded and grey layers, making it very dificult to see if a program is allready runni g minimized with a simple glimpse.
Its not a big deal, but nevertheless it impacts on daily routine.
Have anyone noticed it? If my description is a bit confusing, let me know, an i will post a screenshot to show you exactly this. This happens only on my desktop, in my laptop all is fine.

it's like this since plasma 5.5. don't know if it's a bug or a desired behavior change from kde devs.
and you have same plasma version or theme in your laptop?

yes sorry. I have the grey faded  background. I don't know why you don't have it.
I thought it was something else..
as I remember a time maybe on kubuntu when the application was minimized or not opened, the icon was  grey. I thought you talked about that.
did you try to create a new user to see if there is the problem for it too?

I have a Manjaro system currently updated to the 15.12-rc1 version, with a KDE4 Desktop.

Now, when I try to update my system to 15.12, I get the following error:

Code: [Select]
errore: sono stati rilevati dei conflitti irrisolvibili tra i pacchetti
errore: impossibile eseguire l'operazione richiesta (dipendenze in conflitto)
:: akonadi-qt4 e akonadi vanno in conflitto

I tried to manually remove akonadi-qt4 without success, due to dependencies. What can I do? Do I have to manually upgrade to Plasma 5 before updating?

Thank you.

This time I decided to save my documents and files and to install Manjaro Linux KDE in the fresh way! I have to notice first at all... in my two previus fresh installations Thus had worked well (I mean previous Manjaro Linux releases such as 0.8.3)!!! This time I taken it as first choice... but it fails twice to install grub with UEFI system and gave me a broken system and something else wrong. Even trying to restore Grub from the Live media errors on errors. The second time I met same and others errors from Thus. So I tried Calamares for my first time... and... surprise... everythings got very well!! Thus I think Calamares is to go at first choice in the Installation choices in Manjaro Welcome!!!

Now I'm re-configuring my ManjaroLinux machine as well I like it... and everything is going fine!!!

To the attention of Philm.
No issue from the present update (Manjaro-KDE and OpenRC 15.09 to 15.12). Anyhow, I have a persistent problem with all Manjaro releases. In my PC (ASUS motherboard, i7, 16GB ram) I have four SCSI disks, and obviously many Linux distributions scattered among them. I was forced to abandon the boot from Manjaro (i.e., grub-install /dev/sda) because every time I need to update grub2 (with os-prober) the action is completed very very slowly (sometimes 8-10 minutes), while with Gentoo or CentOS it requires no more than 1 and a half minute. All disks are GPT and there is no Windows instance. What could be an exit way to resolve the problem? Thanks.

No problem with current Kernel: 4.1.15-1-MANJARO x86_64, but with kernels 4.2.8-1 or 4.3.3-2 it drops the wireless connection. It can see the USB WiFi, Card-2: Qualcomm Atheros AR9287 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express), driver: ath9k bus-ID: 04:00.0, but it cannot connect to it.

Thanks

I just tried the live iso on virtual box and there are some artifacts while loading the desktop with both kde and xfce (and free/non-free). In kde I can't see the welcome window neither folders/windows and if I click the taskbar it'll disappear (i can still click the button and the menu will appear). In xfce this is not happening, just the artifacts while loading.

It could be a problem from my computer, i'm using free drivers or maybe a malfunctioning configuration, i've been messing a lot with configs and stuff lately and it's acting odd (some instability, etc). I'm planing on reinstall using some 15.12 community edition.

Hi all,

I never got many issues with Manjaro updates (thanks a lot for all the work you put on it by the way), but today I got into a big problem. I am new to Manjaro, so I have no idea what it could be. After the update, the system restarts into a white screen (no mouse) insteade of the login screen (I use the plasma version only). I have tried looking around for solutions, but any insight on where this could be coming from would be greatly appreciated. I use and Asus ux32v (intel/nvidia graphics).

Thank you very much,

@Manjaro-newbi, would you consider creating a separate topic in KDE section of the forum? (Be aware of the timeout error bug which comes after you send a newly created topic, simply close the tab of the browser. Your topic will be posted desite the error message.)
In the new topic provide some system info like inxi -f and a copy of some logfiles like from /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Best you boot with a live USB and copy the log files from the hard drive to post it on the forum.

I had to reconfigure kwallet.  Also kmail was set to open at startup.  Instead of opening kmail a new compose kmail window would open.  I removed it from auto startup and load it manually as a work around for now.

Hello everyone,

@Dev Team,
congrats on a release.
Very nice and catchy video of KDE, i've been showing it to friends, they stared in awe. Many people still believe that linux is scary command line, haha.

I've been following the progress on the Manjaro since the time i've reported the error in Thus some months back. Though silent, i've read through every update and notes, waiting.
Now i'll finally give it a try as my main system.

I'm going through the Installation with Calamares and have already identified a some mistakes in Russian translation.
I've skimmed quickly through the web-page and the wiki but have not seen any directions toward language translations.
Should i report those errors to you, or to the Calamares dev team?

As always, great update.

Right now Manjaro almost feels like the perfect distribution, whoever I keep having the same problem always related to Nvidia and Bumblebee. I know that the *buntu distributions follows a different approach of graphic drivers implementation, whoever I must still note that the performance on my machine is much lower when using any other distribution than *buntu. Take the example of Dota 2, while on *buntu I get around 120 fps stable, on Manjaro I get only 90 fps, but unstable to the point where it hurts the gameplay even using the discrete graphic card.

Other than that, great update and everything went smooth as usual.

Unfortunately install did not went smoothly. I'm good at hitting problems, as always. :)

Env:
UEFI Mode
USB pen drive installer booted with non-free components
USB pen drive as the destination (reported as sdb)

Installer: Thus
Options: Russian, Encrypt, LVM, Separate home (same as before)

Upon finishing the installation got a popup message stating that the boot loader might have hit a problem and that i should check with the Arch wiki.
Well, it did hit the problem. No grub on efi partition of the target drive...

Digging the wiki, will update this post with the solution.

I have just noticed that my usb3 hdd write speed dropped significally after the update.
when i copy/transfer files to my external usb3 hdd, i had an average write speed (according to kde's widget) ~30-60 kiB/s
Now i only have approx ~ 10-16 KiB/s
My drive isnt full, have plenty of free space available.
Have anyone else noticed it?

Check your BIOS that USB settings are not set to USB 1.0
It is also sometimes called Full/Low Speed (which is slow) and High Speed (which is fast).

i'm pretty sure its something wrong with the kde update.
i run gnome-disks-util and run the built-in test for read/write speed.
the results where an average
110 kib/s reads
79 kib/s writes
as a result of this score, i conclude that my disk is already recognized and working at usb3 speeds by the system
but when i copy files to it, speed drops to 10-16 kib/s.
on the contrary, when i copy something eg a large 2gb file, FROM the usb3 hdd TO my internal disk (eg /home/user1/files) it perform the action with an average 65 kib/s. quite allright.

Hello Manjaro team!

Thank you very much for the new release! But first of all Merry Christmas!
Update went smootly without any issues as usual on my mashine HP Probook G0. However, I got some small issues that are more cosmethic than major ones. Welcome screen states ManjaroLinux 15.12 Capella, but login screen states Manjarolinux 15.09 Bellatrix. It is not a big deal for me, but it would be nice if I can fix that.
Other than that seems OK.
Thank you agin for the wonderful distribution! For the last 2 years that's my main OS.

Regards

It isn't. That's ignoring the issue. Making the firewall starting selection through the GUI is the solution.
