Title: [linux38] 3.8-rc2 hit unstable repos
Post by: philm on 07. January 2013, 22:06:01
With todays commit (http://git.manjaro.org/packages-sources/basis/commit/bfa9575cc230e500e09aa2d8a5b77fab0f165f0a) (i686 (http://lists.manjaro.org/pipermail/manjaro-packages/20130107/000447.html)/x86_64 (http://lists.manjaro.org/pipermail/manjaro-packages/20130107/000448.html)) we have the latest mainline kernel available.

Followed packages build so far:

Code: [Select]
linux38-3.8rc2-1
linux38-bbswitch-0.4.2-0.1
linux38-fcpci-31107-0.1
linux38-fcpcmcia-31107-0.1
linux38-headers-3.8rc2-1
linux38-nvidiabl-0.76-0.1
linux38-r8168-8.031.00-0.1
linux38-rt3562sta-2.4.1.1-0.1
linux38-vhba-module-20120422-0.1
linux38-virtualbox-guest-modules-4.2.6-0.1
linux38-virtualbox-host-modules-4.2.6-0.1

All other packages like linux38-nvidia have compile errors. So linux38 has a long way ahead. Btw. virtualbox-guest-modules still don't work in i686 since this glibc-2.17 issue. It is not recommed to use this kernel on productive machines!

My local repo was not synchronised and didn't have this package. I downloaded it from the German repo, but I don't know if there is a way to make mhwd-kernel work with local packages. I copied it to /var/cache/pacman/pkg which I thought would work, but mhwd-kernel still doesn't see it.

I know I can use pacman, but mhwd-kernel is a better option - and it has no man page so I can't seek the answer there.

Is there such a function or should I just use pacman?

Edit. If there isn't such a function maybe there should be?

Hi,

Code: [Select]
warning: no packages have been installed! Did you enter a valid kernel?
[root@manjaro pat]#

I must switch to Testing to have this kernel ?

No, you have to switch to unstable.

No, you have to switch to unstable.

Thanks. (I'm stupid, I should have read the title better  :-[)

It works :

Code: [Select]
[root@manjaro pat]# uname -r
3.8.0-1-MANJARO
[root@manjaro pat]#

Really installed on my hard drive, without VBox.

(edit)

And my VirtualBox works good too.

(re-edit)

For Cinnamon :

Code: [Select]
[root@manjaro pat]# systemd-analyze
Startup finished in 5069ms (kernel) + 1141ms (userspace) = 6210ms
[root@manjaro pat]#

Code: [Select]
[root@manjaro pat]# dmesg | tail

[    6.266210] Bluetooth: SCO socket layer initialized

Virtualbox works just fine in x86_64 architecture. It has only issues on 32bit Manjaro (http://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=1528.0) boxes.
