Title: LXQT in VBox with 384 MB :)
Post by: Esclapion on 21. June 2014, 22:26:38
Hi all  :)

For the fun :

Qupzilla is open on Manjaro Homepage. I have 166 MB of free RAM.

This ISO contains Clementine, Trojita, Turbulence, etc... all the software defined in the other topic.

I installed with Thus.

Without qupzilla, it need almost (at start only) :

So, it can be well suited for PC with 512 MB.

(edit)

Works until 280 MB.

wow. i never realized that qupzilla used so little ram.

another reason to use qupzilla as default browser: a lightweight browser for a lightweight DE
at least until a superior and equally light browser comes along.

on my system (kde with proprietary nvidia driver and 4gb ram) i have tested the ram usage as well:
- system in idle with firefox open: 760mb
- additionally, i opened qupzilla and visited manjaro.org: 870-880mb
- after i have closed qupzilla again: 770mb

firefox uses for the same task more than 200mb (i would have to close firefox and i do not want to rewrite this post).
chromium uses much more.

Hi excalibur1234,   :)

I found the problem for the 1st start of qupzilla. Works perfect now.

And I use now the release 1.7 of qupzilla-git (qt4) instead of the qupzilla 1.6 of community.

A Qt5 version exists also, but less votes, so I prefer use a stable product.

Re,

FYI, I found the trick to have a shorter Menu :

(edit)

Maybe I can put also the three remaining in the configuration center.  ::)

so it uses even less ram. great job!

i agree. keep the qt5 version in your mind (or better: on a list) a look at it's state in a couple of months again and test it. if it appears stable and you do not read any complaints, install the qt5 version by default. if not, check again a couple of months later.

please do not take the number of votes as the only indicator. people had much more time to vote for the qt4 version than for the qt5 version (except, they were released at the same time). this can distort the ratio of votes.

FYI, I found the trick to have a shorter Menu :
good job!
now, lxqt looks more professional.

there is still a lot of work left, but with the 1.0 release of lxqt the settings menu (and everything about lxqt) should feel much better! there is nothing you can do about that - we just need to wait.

I have no information on the 1.0. For the moment, I have only the 0.7.
