Title: New ISO Lxde-QT bêta 64 bits available !
Post by: Esclapion on 12. April 2014, 19:26:43
Hi all,  :)

This release follows the 32 bits announced HERE (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=12279.0), more :

- a lot of technical and cosmetics improvements ;
- proprietary drivers ;
- gimp

- compton is integrated, but not activated (some problems woth compton.conf)

DOWNLOAD LINK (https://sourceforge.net/projects/manjarofrance/files/lxde-qt/) (0.8.9.3)

Size of the ISO : a bit < 900 Mo, installed : 2.7 Go, RAM in VBox : 154 Mo, Kernel 3.12.

not included : manjaro-printer, manjaro-pulse (choice), turbulence

Some screenshots with black theme :

This release is fully operable. Each part of a window can have diffferent colours with qtconfig-qt4, etc... Gnome themes can be mixed with Openbox themes.

May be more customizing possibilities than xfce(I run the risk here  ;D) , but with the speed of Openbox.  ;)

i installed it in virtualbox and customized it a little. i also spend about 2 hours in it.

it looks nice and i did not notice any obvious bug.
i can tell you put a lot of effort into this release. well done!

i found 1 strange thing: when i install kernel 3.14 and boot it, manjaro lxqt (in virtualbox) does not fill my whole desktop - only a very small area of it. with kernel 3.12 everything looks alright.

one question: where did you change the background color of windows to black?
(i would like to exchange black with a dark grey...)

Hi,  :)

Thanks to all for your tests.

Initially, this release was built with the kernel 3.14. But this kernel doesn't work on my PC with Catalyst.  So I reverted to the 3.12 LTS,   not add problems of  a new kernel and problems of a new DE. Few kernel subreleases later, I will take again the 3.14, but not now. It's a pity, but...

I wish also. May be a value to change directly in a theme. The current is the Mediterrean, but is a mix of the Gnome version (in /usr/share/themes) too big, and of the Openbox-3 version (in the home) very small.

My main problem for the moment. It's a bit difficult for the user to change that, and need simplification.

I must also modify a bit thus to allow auto-connect during installation.

For the remaining, some translations are missing, but I saw in the mailing list  that the Lxde-QT team was working on it. But they have a lot to do : for example study QT5 and prepare Wayland.

Confirm working with linux313 (I'm using nvidia)
o Fixed autologin (in sddm.conf)
o Still unable to fix numlockx
o PcManFm still unable to single click

Changed wallpaper (don't think its' an issue changing themes but didn't try it).
Nice selection of preinstalled apps.

Thanks again.

All the upcoming 0.8.10 installation media is going to use 3.12 series OOTB anyway. :)

To have a white background for the windows, you can choose here Gtk+ instead of Cleanlooks :

It's only a trick, but it solves this problem for the moment. May be it's due to the use of a gtk theme on a qt support.  ::)

@ gohlip : for the problem of numlockx, add to the end of ~./xprofile :

Code: [Select]
/usr/bin/numlockx on &
or off, as you want.

@ gohlip : for the problem of numlockx, add to the end of ~./xprofile
Hey, it works! Thanks. You're a great help.

ps: Previously, I tried various combinations of "numlockx & "/usr/bin/numlockx" "/usr/bin/numlockx &" in
.config/lxqt/lxqt.conf
.config/openbox/autostart
/etc/sddm.conf
/etc/xdg/lxqt/lxqt.conf
/etc/xdg/openbox/autostart

Why is this thing in .xprofile?  heh heh heh

ps: your 2 bugs you mentioned. I did a "pacman -Syu" - nothing needs updating. So I guess nothing for us to worry about.

Great work. Thanks again.

Didn't even try the CLI this time:)

Memory usage on actual hardware with Nvidia drivers.  Would probably be a little lower in another 15 minutes or so once systemd and gvfs settle down.  I'm actually rather surprised given the last time I tried Razor it was using ~350 Mb and had next to nothing installed.

After a few minutes poking around.

Menu:
1.  Language set to English(U.S.).  System Tools has French entry 'Ajouter/supprimer des logiciels'.
2.  Internet.  The Qupzilla and Web Browser entries are a bit redundant since both launch Qupzilla.
3.  Accessories.  The 'About XFCE' entry looks a little out of place:)
4.  Preferences.  LXQT Power Management doesn't have an icon at least with Faenza.

The theming is a bit confusing.  You have lxappearance and the new QT version of same?  Lxappearance for GTK themes?

Suggestion.  Set up a custom theme for Root so when you're running PCManFM-QT as root you have a clear visual indicator of that fact.  For example SpaceFM sets the top panel to red when running as root.
Brain just engaged edit>  Ignore this one.  'Open as Root' was removed in the latest non-QT PCManFM so I wouldn't be surprised if it was gone in next QT version.

PS. My KDE is off the topic, but I couldn't resist. ;)

I know how that is:)  Although I have to ask is your KDE 64-bit with propietary drivers though?

Like I said I was just really surprised after my last experience with Razor-QT.

No, 32-bit and free.  :)

Conky57,

it's not the place for KDE advertisement. I could discuss what you say, but not here.

LCJr,

Thanks for your tries. The main problem remains the theming, but it's very difficult. I must see what I can do with qtcurve, but for the moment, the result is bad.
I think suppress the faenza, too classic -> ? but use by default a better krat myrelax (I dont like a lot the Oxygen, too common).

Menu : I must look for the french entry, thanks. I think simplify all : I don't know if the current choice (done by default) to have together a control center and entry for each element, as in Xfce, is good. Leave only the essential, as short as possible. For the moment, it's too complicate for the user.

For the administrator terminal : a red prompt ?

Personally I feel icons and theming is best left to the user but it seems some people want a uniform Manjaro look across the various DE's.  Or to put another way, no matter what you do somebody will always be unhappy with it:)  So do what you want.

I agree with you on simplifying the menu.  Maybe a GTK Theme submenu to clearly separate the GTK theming from QT.

Red top panel.  Top window in screenshot is user account with Raleigh theme and Gnome icons.  Bottom is Root with same theming but has the red panel, overrides the theme I guess.  Makes for a nice visual indicator that you're in a root window.

Sorry, still haven't had much time to look at it properly.

Not seeing a task manager/system monitor.

.config/Autostart folder and contents.  Leftover from Openbox?  Don't really seem to serve any purpose.
.config/Obmenu-generator exists but it isn't installed.
.conkyrc is in Home but conky isn't installed.

Too many terminals.  Q, LX and X.

Is PCManFM set to start minimized or does it not remember settings?

As taskmanager, qps is included.

autostart works. For example, to start compton, rename in this folder compton.sav as compton.desktop. But compton-conf, in the menu, seems not working well.

xterm et uxterm are due to an octopi dependency I will suppress them. I said it to Arnt. They are ugly and must disappear.
qterminal is under development, and has for me two problems : the Linux path is not in the title, and no transparency. So I furnish lxterminal as alternative.

.conkyrc is remainng from ??? Thanks, I will suppress it.

afaik, this version of pcmanfm-qt doesn't remember the settings. But you can customize his size at opening.

Re,

For the menu, currently, I use menulibre, but it works not good. I never used obmenu-generator, must learn it.

I will look for qps.

autostart has pulseaudio-ctl, turbulence and disable-dpms.  Are any of those even needed or installed?

xterm can be configured.  You can change it during session by holding down Ctrl and one of the mouse buttons.  Each mouse button brings up it's own menu and its kind of tricky.  You have keep holding the mouse button and select the item you want to change and release.  To make the changes permenant you have the edit some files.  I've read tutorials online but completely forgotten it all:)  Maybe check you know where:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xterm

I believe obmenu-generator only works for the openbox menu.  To enable the openbox menu don't you have to give up the desktop-right click menu?  Although you can set the openbox menu to a keyboard shortcut or something like this:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Openbox#Desktop_menu_as_a_panel_menu  I followed this tutorial and it works but not a 100% of the time for me.  Sometimes had a click more than once to open the menu or I could have been accidently double clicking too.

New ISO HERE (https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=12741.0). Nothing of very new, but we didn't have a 32 bits with proprietary drivers.

for everybody, who has trouble updating lxqt-config-git, do
Code: [Select]
pacman -Rns lxinput-qt-git
then, the update works.
