unable to lock database on Software Update

I was running Software Update.  It was working on PGP keyring for Manjaro and there was a consistent pattern of HD activity . . . LED activity light would flash consistently once ever 1.5 seconds that went on for 20 minutes.

I selected Quit or a buttom with a similar name.

I restarted Software Update and even after a cold boot get this error message when I click on Details:

      unable to lock database

I am running nothing.  perhaps something was started at boot that interferes.

Any  ideas?

Open a terminal and type:

sudo pacman -SyuPost me your output ...

Output of sudo pacman -Syu is attached.

I sent db.lck to trash and Software Update works and everything is up to date.

Delete /var/lib/pacman/db.lck and call sudo pacman -Syu again. Should work ...
