What packages do you miss most in Manjaro XFCE 0.8.0?
« on: 28. August 2012, 22:15:10 »
Since we decided to ship Manjaro XFCE 0.8.1 as DVD edition we have more space to add packages to this image.

Followed additonal packages are already added to our daily builds:

* libreoffice + translations for de, en_GB, en_US, fr, es, ru
* additional translations for en_GB, es, es-ar and ru for firefox and thunderbird
* hunspell in de, en, es, fr
* transmission and xchat

Anything else you miss just post into this thread. Please read all replies so no double post might occur. I'll keep this first post updated when I add some suggestions of you guys to our XFCE profile in manjaroiso.

If you find time just tryout our Daily Builds

IMHO it´s much easier to install the packages you do need than to remove those that you don´t. Because of this, apart from some packages that are not that that easy to install, i wouldn´t ad anything at all but

- CUPS + gutenprint + full set of Filters + maybe GUI.
- Some sort of preconfigured firewall
- maybe packer (although it is installed pretty easily- it helps finding that packages that you just need for your system)

That´s it.

^This should be the golden rule^

Having said that, I think that a menu editor is needed, as is some kind of font manager.

Banshee - maybe
Hijra applet - why should we integrate an islamic calendar. Nothing against islamic people, but what should i do with this? Sorry, no chance.
Synaptic - isn't working with ArchLinux or ManjaroLinux, it's only for .deb based distros.

You can install tons of software with packer or yaourt if you are using AUR

Why not so many distros have include it  like (Ubuntu , Fedora, ...), and I'm not talking about integrate it into live CD but to add it into a repository,
and forget my english because I dont speak it.

I have to agree with this ..................

just looked at the daily build - it's up to 1.5Gb for 64bit from 692MB for  Manjaro Linux 0.8.0 .

where is it going to end ?

great distro but I use xfce because I am looking for a generally light build to add to as necessary.

cheers
