Firefox visual issues
« on: 27. April 2016, 08:41:57 »
Hi guys,

after the Apr 26 update, my Firefox got weird. Icons/Text in the bookmarks menu are way too close all of a sudden. Also tooltip font and background seem to have the same colour or text is missing. Nothing like this occurs in any other app (not even Thunderbird). Also highlighting text doesn't work visually any more. Reinstalling doesn't help.
Any ideas?

I am having the same problems on Firefox, but also on Pacman and the password box at startup.

Did you try this?

Make sure to use the new vertex-maia theme, many other themes are considered to be broken.

2nd this. I too had a "few" graphic issues, BUT resolved by switching to a GTK+3 compliant theme (aka Vertex) and works fantastic, in fact the Vertex them actually looks better noiw than it ever did.

Alright. So I installed Vertex Maia and did

Code: [Select]
ln -s /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia/chrome ~/.mozilla/firefox/xyz.default/chrome
This, however, did break my nice theme in firefox, so now everything is dark :-/ Also under standard firefox right click menus have same font colour as background colour = cannot read anything. In firefox-gtk2 everything is ok (but also dark now, of course, due to Vertex stuff).

I presume I have to tweak some more things?
Also: How do I get back my old theme? I think it was either vanilla firefox or Menda. This noob here was too daft to make a backup :-O

ln -s /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia/chrome ~/.mozilla/firefox/xyz.default/chrome
Just to be sure: You did not really use "xyz.default", did you?
Could you show us the output of
Code: [Select]
la ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome

haha no,no , I used my 'name' as in that long number

Code: [Select]
la ~/.mozilla/firefox/m4fhl263.default-1440325326934/chrome
lrwxrwxrwx 1 robert users 44 27.04.2016 14:02 /home/robert/.mozilla/firefox/m4fhl263.default-1440325326934/chrome -> /usr/share/themes/Firefox/Vertex-Maia/chrome/

by the way: in my infinite wisdom, making a backup of the chrome link and subsequently deleting it, I can now use firefox-gtk2 to have the same experience as before the 45.0.2-1 patch. To standard firefox the same graphic issues still apply, though.

I have the same problem as Mund6 - both Firefox, Pacman and the password box are acting funny. The Firefox theme change will presumably only fix Firefox? Does anyone know what the broader issue might be? Any thoughts much appreciated!

Read the news! It's been posted in these forums fifty million, jillion, billion times as well as throughout the ENTIRE internet that GNOME broke GTK3 themes with their new CSS in 3.20. Read it, comprehend it, then change your blasted themes to ones that work! Sheesh! Somebody give me a cheeseburger!

Dear OP: Please forgive me for making you the internet's whipping-boy.

So much for the 'I'm new, be nice' moniker that the moderators kindly put on our newbie profiles...

Rest assured that if the ENTIRE internet had in fact written about this, or if I knew anything about either GNOME, GTK3 themes or CSS I wouldn't have asked the question. Since you've now put it so incisively, however, I'll go off and google it. So thanks, in a way. And hope you get that cheeseburger, you seem to need it.

Figured it out - downloaded the vertex-maia theme and all works perfectly now. Thanks to all who helped.

And I sincerely apologize for my earlier rudeness. I was totally overwhelmed by repeated questions of the same nature. Especially since everyone was repeatedly warned. For days. I guess it takes something like GNOME's foulup to draw out all the Lurkers!

Hey, welcome to Manjaro! :D

Hopefully there won't be another issue like this that will make me cross paths with said bodh... and thanks - been here a year but haven't had something like this come up before where I felt the need to post.

Thanks I will try to solve the issue.

From one noob to another - with a bit of digging this was ridiculously simple: Go to Settings-Appearance and change the 'Style' to a compatible one (you'll see Firefox instantly return to normal as you select the style). The Vertex-Maia styles work fine (if they're not there download them from Pacman), I'm currently using Adwaita, which also works. Deceptively simple, once you know what the problem is - all the talk of themes etc confused me no end until I saw someone say 'go to Settings-Appearance'...
