Version 8.11
« on: 05. November 2014, 01:48:48 »
Is there any estimate of a date for 8.11? Also any news of an openbox maintainer? I have been distro  hopping all summer and have lost touch with Manjaro  news

0.8.11 installation media is almost ready. We keep having little issues or setbacks that hold it up for more days, release candidate ISO's should be out within a day, maybe 2.

Openbox doesn't have a primary maintainer and is likely not going to be featured prominently as an 'official' edition from here on, but certainly we still want it to continue as a community edition.

If someone wants to maintain it, please speak up.

That would be a shame regarding the Openbox as an "official" edition. Manjarobox was what got me started using Manjaro a few versions ago when CarlD was the dev/maintainer. Much moreso than CrunchBang (another great distro). It's the sole reason I choose Openbox as my only WM in Arch.

Please IM/Email the maintainer requirements.

Please IM/Email the maintainer requirements.

The requirements are good knowledge of ManjaroISO & Openbox, and to a lesser extent Git (for retrieving updated base/shared profile data) and general knowledge of Arch-based operating systems.

Anyone can have a go at producing customised Openbox ISO's using ManjaroISO and see if they can easily get their head around it.

Our wiki has some general info on ManjaroISO usage and beyond that specific questions can be asked on the forums, but they should be on specifics, not broad questions such as "How do i use ManjaroISO"

Thanks for the info, Rob. I've never built a ManjaroISO but I live-and-die by the ArchWiki, so I'm used to doing independent research and know how to ask questions the smart way. I've used the ManjaroWiki in the past. Successfully installed/operated all the Arch-based distributions. Have used git @ github, etc. Oh yeah, and I can output "hello world" in 27 languages thanks to the influence of my wife's 35 years of professional (meaning paid) A/P/Dev experience. ;)

Anyway, I'm not applying for the job per se, but I'm retired and I'm bored and I think I'll go build a few ManjaroISOs. And maybe chat with CarlD a bit. :)

regards,
Ken

Thanks c00ter!
I'm a big fan of the simplistic, yet smartly pre-configured, Manjarobox as well. Great to have someone like you stepping up to the plate! Would be a shame if openbox went under.

Thanks, but it ain't gonna be me. My wife says I'm too old & cranky to take on that kind of comittment. ;) And my new computer won't be here 'til December--that's the main thing.  I can't build anything on this 32-bit netbook. :(  But, hey! Community Editions are good. :)

Yeah, as long as it stays like this I won't mind what it's called. In the end everyone installs what they like anyways. The out-of-the-box preconfigured obmenu, tint, print support, AUR support, etc stuff is really nice, though. Just little things that eat up time if you have to tweak them from vanilla versions.

Any update on when 8.11 media are likely to be released? I need to reinstall and don't really want to dl the old media and run lots of updates if the new version is going to be released imminently.

thanks

When it's ready which I suspect would be soon. There are always the Pre & RC releases.

As mips says, you could try the latest xfce-0.8.11-pre4....you can get it here:http://sourceforge.net/projects/manjarodev/files/users/korrode/xfce/test/

There is a pkgs.txt there to tell you what it includes.

Best regards.

Thanks for the replies. After posting the above I 'discovered' the testing media forum. I may well try that from what I have read it sounds quite simple to swap an install back to stable.

Although I see that xfce pre4 is 2 weeks old and kde has an rc released so I guess that xfce will release an rc media before final release.

Hi. Shall I download and install 0.8.10 or wait for 0.8.11? When can it be expected?
