Teamviewer can't connect under Wayland
« on: 21. March 2016, 11:02:31 »
Hi all.

Just wanted to know if I'm the only one with this specific problem.

When I run "Gnome under Wayland", my teamviewer application launches, but cannot connect to the server. It works fine under xfce (and Xorg).

Anyone have this problem, or knows a fix?
Desktop PC: Manjaro XFCE 15.12 (stable, kernel 4.4)
Private Laptop: Manjaro Strit 16.03 (unstable, kernel 4.6)
Work Laptop: Manjaro Strit 16.03 (stable, kernel 4.4)
Netbook: Arch Linux XFCE/LXqt (i686, kernel 4.0)

Same here on Fedora, so it's not a manjaro specific problem.

I think the problem is the way TeamViewer wants to grab the screen which is prohibited by Wayland.

While I think that yes, Teamviewer has problem grabbing the screen, but this is before any screen grabbing is attempted.

This is when I launch Teamviewer, and it want to connect my account. This works under Xorg, but not under Wayland and I have no idea why. :P

I should launch it in a terminal just to look at the output some day.

wayland - buggy - may or may not work
teamviewer - uses wine (check pacman -Ql teamviewer|grep exe) - may or may not work

you combine those two and expect it to work ?

Well yeah, I see what you are saying. But it works fine under Xorg. :P
I do understand that Wayland is still in dev, but all the other things on my laptop works fine with XWayland. :P

i'm just happy teamviewer works. There are some bugs, but the important job of remote access gets done \o/ \o/

Me too. I would like a real Open Source alternative though. Where you login to an account, and have access too all the machines you have associated with that account. But as far as I know, nothing that does this exists. Multi platform would just be an added bonus, as long as it works on Linux.

I'm pretty sure nowadays teamviewer is Linux native.
I wonder who's provided the first graphical remote desktop solution under wayland...
