How to ask questions the smart way
« on: 10. January 2014, 16:14:03 »
Hi, so I'm taking this online course in data analysis online with forum based participation and one of the first video lectures the playlist of the class is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFaWxxzouCY&list=PLjTlxb-wKvXNSDfcKPFH2gzHGyjpeCZmJ about how to get post in the most accurate way on forums in order to get better answers and I wanted to share it here, because well, this is a forum and someone may find it helpful. By the way the video is targeted at the data analysis class but it is very general so it can be applied in any forum and also the video is based on this document http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html called How to ask questions the smart way by Eric Raymond that is more general but much more long than the video.  :)
I don't believe in anything, I'm just here for the violence.

This would indeed help a lot of people, both the one asking questions and the one who gives support.

I think the most important part is this, it's something that many people forget or don't spend enough time on: http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#before

Culinax, what would you think of making this a sticky over on newbie corner?  It is a very helpful article  :)

I agree with that, good idea. I guess it shouldn't be too hard to move and sticky.

The ultimate tyranny in a society is not control
by martial law. It is control by the psychological
manipulation of consciousness, through which reality
is defined so that those who exist within do not even
realize that they are in prison.

A most valuable link!

I once let myself get dragged into an argument with someone on YouTube, yet kept stoically polite, though firm, and in the end the guy ended up apologising for voicing his inexplicable presumptions about my sexual behaviour among other things. Hehe. Don't let the keyboard warriors get to you!
