[How to] get Manjaro Cinnamon default desktop settings
« on: 24. February 2016, 13:07:12 »
If you either have messed up your configuration and you would like to return to the default ::) O:-)
or
you have an older install of Cinnamon, or your own build of some kind
and
you would like to adopt the desktop settings of the latest Manjaro Cinnamon desktop ^-^:

This is the clean way to do it:

1. run
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -rf /etc/skel
2. install
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S manjaro-cinnamon-settings. The latest version 20160226-0.1 already pulls in all necessary dependencies, so you don't have to worry about any other packages... Also it installs a little script that you will need later.

The rest of the procedure you have to write down on a piece of paper ;) if you don't have a second computer open with this page available or ... good memory: 8)

3. logout of your Cinnamon session

4. Press Ctrl+Alt+F2 (or another F-key except F7) to switch to a console screen and there you login as the user that you want to reset the settings for (!) (do not login as root!)

5. run
Code: [Select]
cd .config/dconf
mv user user.bak
reset-gsettings

_DONE_

Now you can return to the graphical tty with Ctrl+Alt+F7 and log back in to your Cinnamon session and your desktop should look exactly like a brandnew manjaro ISO >:D

Good luck!

2. install
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S manjaro-cinnamon-settings(the latest version 20160223-1 already pulls in all necessary dependencies, so you don't have to worry about any other packages...)

3. create a little script (will be included in the above mentioned package in the near future)

  3.a
Code: [Select]
sudo nano /usr/local/bin/default-gsettings
  3.b paste in this code:
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash

for i in $(gsettings list-schemas | grep cinnamon)
do
        gsettings reset-recursively $i
done

  3.c press Ctrl+o, followed by <Enter>, followed by Ctrl+x to save the script and to exit the editor

  3.d make the script executable with
Code: [Select]
sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/default-gsettings

I thought it might be that simple. THANKS for confirming.

Worked like a charm!

Ok. Meanwhile I have simplified that.
The updated package manjaro-cinnamon-settings 20160226-0.2 now pulls in the script, too, and you can simply call it with
Code: [Select]
reset-gsettings
It also contains three additional lines that I figured out to reset the settings of gnome-terminal >:D
Code: [Select]
default_profile=$(gsettings get org.gnome.Terminal.ProfilesList default)
profile=${default_profile:1:-1}
gsettings reset-recursively "org.gnome.Terminal.Legacy.Profile:/org/gnome/terminal/legacy/profiles:/:$profile/"

Just remember to logout of the session first and then rm ~/dconf/user before you run reset-gsettings !!

I'll modify the original post accordingly.

I've also renamed that icon so it won't conflict with the old one in the future. :)
