Upgrade KDE 4 installation to Plasma 5
« on: 26. November 2014, 18:48:00 »
To install Plasma 5 in a net installation, you would start in step 3.

1. Update your system
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -Syu

2. Remove everything that depends on kdebase-workspace
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -R $(LANG=C pacman -Qi kdebase-workspace | grep "Req" | sed -e  's/Required By\s*:\s*//g')
And remove kdebase-workspace too
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -R kdebase-workspace

3. Install the Plasma 5 desktop

Basic stuff:
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S bluedevil breeze drkonqi kde-gtk-config kdeplasma-addons kgamma5 khelpcenter kinfocenter kio-extras kmenuedit kscreen ksshaskpass ksysguard kwallet-pam kwayland-integration kwin kwrited milou oxygen oxygen-cursors plasma-desktop plasma-nm plasma-pa plasma-workspace plasma-workspace-wallpapers powerdevil systemsettings user-manager
Display manager (sddm):
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S sddm sddm-kcm
KDE4/QT4 Theming:
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S breeze-kde4 oxygen-kde4
GTK Themes:
gtk-theme-maia
breeze-gtk
gnome-themes-standard for Adwaita theme (oficial gtk3 theme)

Print, service manager:
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S print-manager systemd-kcm
Better systray/notification support:
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S sni-qt libappindicator-gtk2 libappindicator-gtk3 libappindicator-sharpAlso for 64 bits:
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S lib32-sni-qt
Say YES (y) for all conflicts

4. Enable the display manager (sddm)
Code: [Select]
sudo systemctl enable sddm -f
If for some reason that command fails, try this
Code: [Select]
sudo rm /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service
sudo systemctl enable sddm

Now you can reboot (type "reboot" in the console, it doesn't work using the launcher)

5. Post installation

-Configure sddm
If you installed sddm-kcm, go to System Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Login Screen (SDDM) and select the theme you want (Breeze is recommended)
If not you go to a terminal
Code: [Select]
su
(type your root password)
sddm --example-config > /etc/sddm.conf
nano /etc/sddm.conf

And change this lines:
Code: [Select]
[Theme]
# Current theme name
Current=breeze

# Cursor theme
CursorTheme=breeze_cursors

- Install Maia Plasma Theme
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S plasma5-themes-maia sddm-maia-theme
Go to System Settings -> Workspace Theme -> Look and Feel -> select Maia and apply

It also includes a theme for sddm go to System Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Login Screen (SDDM) and select Maia.

And that's all, if you have any problem just ask :)

You'll need to copy your .face icon to /usr/share/sddm/faces and rename it to {user}.face.icon yourself.

This should be what you need: https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Install_Display_Managers#SDDM
Best regards.
Thank you, but only for installation; I'm looking for documentation for setup.

@Kirek & conky57 : thank you.

I never think of this man.
What is unfortunate is that it is in English (I'm French).

It's better than nothing and it should be fine.

Install the oxygen package
Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -S oxygen
I guess I have to add it to the minimal plasma 5 installation.
