menu maximized and won't restore to normal
« on: 21. February 2016, 06:18:24 »
ok, this is very odd... I was trying to resize the menu in XFCE (whisker menu) and I accidentally double clicked or something and the menu maximized. And it refuses to let me unmaximize it, or resize it smaller... I can only open it full screen or close it, nothing in between.

I've tried right click and drag, left click and drag, right click on the top for a right click menu (nope, no menu) Closing and reopening it does not change it, still full screen.

How can I reset the menu?

Just for added info, I'm using standard XFCE but with compiz 0.8 for the WM.

Code: [Select]
sudo mv ~/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-8.rc ~/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-8.rc.old
log out of session and back in

I get this response to the command:

Code: [Select]
mv: cannot stat '/home/chaos/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-8.rc': No such file or directory

looks like no such file exists, or it's someplace else.

hmm, ok, on my system it was

~/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-2.rc'

so now I just have to wait for a render to finish so I can log out and see if it works

cool yes I tried and it reset the whisker menu to default settings, it doesn't recreate the config file until you edit and save changes to the menu again after logging back in, wonder if in your case it will then call it whiskermenu-3.rc  ???

no, it remains whiskermenu-2.rc but creates a whiskermenu-2.rc.old

it does fix the menu for the most part, returns it to the default size, but I found that I cannot resize it at all, the second I click on the resize corner it goes full screen again, and I have to go through the whole process of moving the file and logging out and back in again...

so for now, at least I have my menu back to a regular size, but I do wish I could resize it a little bit bigger... the last couple categories don't show unless I scroll it down, which kind of annoys me... but too small is better than full screen

not sure if it's an issue with the old compiz, or some weird bug in the menu or what. Probably compiz, I really should update that to the regular modern version, since none of the old unstable stuff I wanted from the old version works anymore anyway.

mine seems to function normally when resizing but I don't have compiz installed

Code: [Select]
pacman -Ss whiskermenu
community/xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin 1.5.2-1 (xfce4-goodies) [installed]
    Alternate menu for Xfce4

yeah, I'm guessing it's probably compiz... more and more small issues keep cropping up, but then compiz 0.8 with the unstable plug-ins is way way out of date.

I do wish someone would get all the cool animations working in the new compiz, but it doesn't seem like anyone is even trying

Just for completeness: This bug is fixed in compiz-reloaded (0.8.x fork packaged in the AUR) and I reported the bug against the 0.9.x branch: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1706062
